Il s'agit du premier film réalisé pour la série de films de propagande Pourquoi nous combattons (Why We Fight), commandée par l'Office d'information de guerre (US Office of War Information, OWI) et le général George C. Marshall. Il est réalisé pour convaincre les troupes américaines de la nécessité de lutter contre les puissances de l'Axe pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le film est fondé sur l'idée que les soldats seront plus disposés et capables de combattre l'ennemi s'ils connaissent la raison de l'engagement de leur pays à la guerre. It was made to educate American troops of the necessity of combating the Axis powers during World War II based on the idea that those in the service would fight more willingly and ably if they knew the background and the reason for their participation in the war. The film was later released to the general American public as a rallying cry for support of the war. (en)

Zrealizowano je na zlecenie Biura Informacji Wojennej oraz George’a C. Marshalla, by przekonać amerykańskich żołnierzy o konieczności walki z państwami Osi podczas II wojny światowej. Uznano bowiem, że będą oni bardziej skłonni do walki, jeśli będą znali tło toczącego się konfliktu oraz powód, dla którego muszą walczyć na froncie. Później filmy trafiły do kin, żeby zyskać poparcie amerykańskiego społeczeństwa i przekonać je do wojny. (pl)
