- The Morocco commemorative medal (1909) (French: "Médaille commémorative du Maroc (1909)") was a French military campaign medal. It was established by the law of 22 July 1909 for award to soldiers participating in the Second Franco-Moroccan War under the command of general (and future Marshal of France) Hubert Lyautey. Long time French colonial interests in North Africa led to tensions between European nations but particularly disturbed Germany. Early in the new century, France pushed established international agreements to their limits bringing tensions to a high point in the Agadir Crisis. In 1907, France responded to the assassination of Émile Mauchamp with a military invasion of Oujda, and to an uprising in protest of the terms of the Treaty of Algeciras with a naval bombardment of Casablanca and a military invasion of the Chaouia plain. This led to leading to an escalation in the number of French troops in their country under the auspices of so-called pacification operations. These military operations went on until 30 March 1912, the date of the signature of the Treaty of Fes, which made Morocco a French Protectorate. (en)
- De Herinneringsmedaille aan Marokko (1909) (Frans: Médaille commémorative du Maroc) was een Franse herinneringsmedaille. De medaille herinnert aan de Franse veldtocht in Marokko, uiting van het Franse kolonialisme en expansionisme in een periode waarin Frankrijk met de andere Europese machten concurreerde om zoveel mogelijk gebieden in Afrika en Azië te veroveren of goed- dan wel kwaadschiks aan zich te binden. De door president Fallières ingestelde medaille was bestemd voor militairen, zeelieden, Franse inwoners van Marokko, marinepersoneel, burgers die de gewonde soldaten bijstonden en hebben deelgenomen aan militaire vredesoperaties en diegenen die de verdediging van Frans bezit in Marokko tijdens de Tweede Marokkaanse Crisis op zich hadden genomen. Deze internationale politieke crisis,ook wel 'Agadir-crisis' genoemd, was een conflict tussen Frankrijk en Duitsland. De crisis ontstond toen Frankrijk in het jaar 1911 tegen eerdere afspraken, troepen naar Marokko zond, zogenaamd om landgenoten te beschermen tegen rellen. Frankrijk stuurde in het voorjaar van 1911 troepen naar Fez omdat opstandelingen de sultan van Marokko bedreigden. Duitsland ging niet akkoord, omdat het zenden van troepen inging tegen de afspraken uit 1909. Uiteindelijk liep het conflict met een sisser af omdat Frankrijk elders in Afrika territoriale concessies aan Duitsland deed. (nl)
