Kilmaluag is within the parish of Kilmuir. The settlements within the township include Balmacqueen (Gaelic: Macqueen's Place), Kendram (Gaelic: Head of the Ridge), Connista (Norse: High Farm), Aird (Gaelic: Point or Promontory) and Solitote (Gaelic: Ruin Hill).
