- There are many theories explaining the causes of sexual violence. These theories include military conquest, socioeconomics, anger, power, sadism, traits, ethical standards, laws, and evolutionary pressures that lend some explanation to the causes of sexual violence (such as rape, molestation, sexual harassment, stalking, etc.). Most of the research on the causes of sexual violence has only been done on male offenders (and has largely ignored female perpetrated sexual violence due to lack of data) and has been target of criticism. - Existem muitas teorias diferentes que explicam as causas da violência sexual. As teorias que serão discutidas neste artigo incluem conquista militar, socioeconomia, raiva, poder, sadismo, traços, padrões éticos, leis e que fornecem alguma explicação para as causas da violência sexual (como estupro, molestamento, assédio sexual, perseguição, incesto, etc.). Observe que a maior parte da pesquisa sobre as causas da violência sexual foi feita apenas em agressores do sexo masculino (e em grande parte ignorou a violência sexual perpetrada por mulheres) e não está totalmente desenvolvida de forma alguma.
