Numerous manga based on The Legend of Zelda series have been published. Manga are comics created in Japan and typically, but not always, span multiple chapters or issues. There have been many different manga based on The Legend of Zelda created by multiple authors, mostly following the plot lines of various games, albeit often with condensed plots, the introduction of new characters, and occasionally the addition of original side-stories. The manga adaptations are generally considered to be non-canon to the games.
The vast majority of The Legend of Zelda manga were only published in Japan and do not see release in English or other languages. Most The Legend of Zelda manga released in English have been the adaptations by Akira Himekawa, along with the A Link to the Past comic by Shotaro Ishinomori.[note 1]
Manhua are the Chinese equivalent of Manga. Only one The Legend of Zelda manhua has been produced, Ocarina of Time 3D (Ming).
4-koma are a type of manga that divide their story into four-panel sections, similar to a comic strip. They typically prioritize gag comedy over standard story development.
