The Master Sword Lv3 (originally named Golden Sword) is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.^{[1][note 1]} It is the ultimate upgrade to the Master Sword and thus the strongest Sword in the games it appears in.^[4] The Master Sword Lv3 goes unnamed in Ancient Stone Tablets.

Location and Uses[]

A Link to the Past[]

In A Link to the Past, this weapon was called the Golden Sword. In order to obtain this upgrade, Link must throw the Master Sword or Tempered Sword into the Mysterious Pond of the Dark World within the Pyramid of Power. As a result, the Cursed Fairy will transform it into the Golden Sword. It has a golden blade, green hilt, and is an extremely powerful sword, as it twice as strong as the Tempered Sword (making the weapon four times as strong as the normal Master Sword, and therefore eight times the Fighter's Sword's strength), making it able to destroy most common enemies in only one or two slashes,^{[verification needed]} and has an even deeper swing sound. However, its great power is still outclassed by the Silver Arrows, which can kill any enemy (including some bosses) with one hit. In the Game Boy Advance remake of the game, it also has the ability to break Pots and Skulls.

The Golden Sword is the only sword that can damage Ganon without requiring the use of the Spin Attack in the original Super NES version of the game unlike the Master or Tempered Sword, making the final battle significantly easier, although in the GBA remake, the latter can do so as well, but it deals less damage.

A Link Between Worlds[]

Renamed the Master Sword Lv3, much like in A Link to the Past, this weapon is the Master Sword at its maximum strength in A Link Between Worlds.^[5] It is obtained similarly to the Master Sword Lv2, requiring two pieces of Master Ore, but they must be taken to the Blacksmith at the Blacksmith's Forge in Lorule.

Ancient Stone Tablets[]

In Ancient Stone Tablets, the Sword is known as the LV4 Sword. When the Hero of Light draws the Master Sword from the Lost Woods, they obtain it at this power level from the start, due to it being strengthened to this state by Link prior to the events of the game. When obtained, the rental Shops will no longer offer a higher level.

• Although this highly powerful upgrade of the Master Sword is commonly used by players in A Link to the Past as it greatly reduces the difficulty of the Final Boss battle against Ganon, like the Master Sword Lv2, it is not required to complete the game or in A Link Between Worlds, as the main antagonists of either title can be defeated with the Master Sword at its standard power.
• Despite only existing in two games of the core series like the previous upgrade and some titles instead have the Master Sword being weakened such as The Wind Waker or Tears of the Kingdom, the Master Sword Lv3 is arguably the most powerful Sword in the The Legend of Zelda series alongside the Fierce Deity Sword, as it inflicts four times the damage of the traditional version of the Blade of Evil's Bane.
• In spite being derived from the Master Sword, the Golden Sword's official artwork has a radically different design to it, namely the ricasso being less apparent in the blade, the Triforce mark being closer to the hilt and is inverted, and the hilt itself, aside from being colored green instead of blue, is sleeker and straight-edged rather than thick and curved, as well as lacking the central jewel.
• The Master Sword Lv3 in A Link Between Worlds, unlike its appearance in the game's prequel, looks identical to the usual Master Sword aside from having a golden blade, similar to the Master Sword Lv2.
