A review of optimization methods for optimal design of truss structures is presented. The problem is formulated as geometric-topologic minimization of compliance. Two approaches are discussed: main structure optimization, and two-stage optimization. Illustrative examples are presented, and possibility of applications of the described approaches to continuous structures is briefly discussed.
