Combined radiation and convection heat transfer in a porous channel bounded by isothermal parallel plates. (English) Zbl 1082.76096
The authors investigate a combined radiation and convection heat transfer in a porous medium confined between gray isothermal parallel plates. With the insertion of a porous solid matrix, heat transfer is significantly enhanced. Both the radiation Nusselt number and convection Nusselt number increase with increase in the porous medium shape parameter \(\gamma\). The behaviour of the total Nusselt number for all values of \(\gamma\) is found to be the same as that for the combined radiative and convective heat transfer in Poiseuille flow \((\gamma\to 0\)). For this limiting case, results from the present work are compared with those available in the literature. The discrete transfer method is used for the solution of radiative part of energy equation, and an iterative finite difference scheme is used to solve the energy equation.
