The book contains thirty papers that are based on the presentations made in the eleven-session symposium on “Damage mechanics in engineering materials”. The book is divided into six parts. Part I is general and deals with the fundamentals of the damage mechanics. Part II is on the localization and damage. Damage in brittle materials is presented in part III, while part IV discusses damage in metals and metal matrix composites. The computational aspects of damage models are presented in two papers in part V. Finally, two papers in part VI present damage in polymers and elastomers. The topics discussed range from theoretical treatments to experimental investigations, including both micromechanics and continuum aspects of damage in materials.
