Summary: We describe new procedures for the problem of selecting the normal population with the largest population mean in an additive model when the populations have a common known variance, and for the problem of selecting the normal population with the largest population mean in an additive model when the populations have a common unknown variance.
The procedures are extensions of E. Paulson’s [Ann. Math. Stat. 35, 174-180 (1964; Zbl 0136.394)] procedures for selecting the normal population which has the largest population mean, with improvements due to V. Fabian [Ann. Stat. 2, 170-176 (1974; Zbl 0288.62033); see also the Priority Note, ibid., 1063 (1974; Zbl 0288.62034)] and the author [Sequential Anal. 10, No. 1/2, 1-16 (1991; Zbl 0744.62032)].
