Optimization of hybrid steel plate girders. (English) Zbl 0623.73104
An efficient procedure is presented for minimum weight design of unstiffened and stiffened hybrid steel plate girders subjected to arbitrary loading using the general geometric programming technique. The nonlinear optimization problem is formulated on the basis of the current American Institute of Steel Construction specification. Four examples are presented to show the application of the algorithm for practical optimization of hybrid steel plate girders.
