The obliquity of the ecliptic in ancient Greek astronomy. (English) Zbl 0664.01001

The author suggests an approximation procedure by which Eratosthenes and Hipparchus could have obtained the value 11/186 of the full circle for the obliquity of the ecliptic from the observed length of the longest daylight in Syene.
