Symbolic dynamics analysis in the dripping faucet experiment. (English) Zbl 0942.37021

The authors characterize three chaotic attractors by constructing graphs which are an approximation to minimal machines, and by the calculation of set complexity. Moreover, they present a new graphical representation of symbolic sequences, whose fragmentation reflects the corresponding set of complexity, and which can be applied to estimate fractal dimensions of fragmentation patterns.
