Modelling dynamic behaviour of agents in a multiagent world: logical analysis of Wh-questions and answers. (English) Zbl 1523.03009

This is an enquiry into an extended erotetic logic, dealing with the so-called Wh-questions formulated with the help of Wh-words (such as who, what, whose, which, but also when, where, why, how). The authors point out that whereas ordinary systems of erotetic logic deal mostly with Yes-No questions, a logical analysis of Wh-questions is of great importance for a “fine-grained analysis of agents’ dynamic behaviour” in a multiagent and multi-cultural world. To provide such an analysis, the authors employ the deductive apparatus of Transparent Intensional Logic (TIL) founded and developed by Pavel Tichý. The paper explains the basic principles of TIL, allowing it to be used as a specification language of agents’ communication and reasoning, and proposes a new logical classification of Wh-questions, “so that the agents can infer possible answers to such questions rather than only looking for them by keywords”. The authors “concentrate mainly on analysing agents’ dynamic activities and their learning by questioning and answering”.
