Linear deformations as global minimizers in nonlinear elasticity. (English) Zbl 0812.73014

The author studies the properties of the strain energy functions for which a linear deformation minimizes the total energy of a hyperelastic ball. The results obtained deserve the attention of applied mathematicians interested in the theory of constitutive equations.
