This paper is devoted to the application of the symmetric split operator technique (SSOT). The authors implement the SSOT for the solution of the Liouville equation and the von Neumann equation for electrons moving under the combined influence of a periodic potential and a uniform, static force. The classical evolution of the electron distribution function has been compared to the evolution of the Wigner function in the quantum domain and the consequences of the quantization process on the SSOT implementation have been pointed out.
