Summary: In a recent publication [Proc. R. Ir. Acad., Sect. A 89, 205-217 (1989; Zbl 0678.35088)] the authors showed how to reformulate the N-soliton solution of the Korteweg-de Vries equation in such a way that the relationship between the N elements of the solution and the solitary wave solution of the equation is clearly apparent. Here, this new formulation of the N-soliton solution is used to analyse some of the properties during interaction of a three-soliton solution of the equation.
