The two-centre problem in general relativity: The scattering of radiation by two extreme Reissner-Nordström black-holes. (English) Zbl 0687.53063
This paper analyzes in detail the axisymmetric perturbations of the metrics corresponding to the static placement of two charged black holes at a finite distance apart, the Majumdar-Papapetrou solution [S. D. Majumdar, Phys. Rev. 72, 390-398 (1947) and A. Papapetrou, Proc. R. Ir. Acad., Sect. A 51, 191-204 (1947; Zbl 0029.18401)]. The perturbations corresponding to scattering of gravitational and electromagnetic radiation and are analyzed in detail in terms of an energy flux, conversion of electromagnetic to gravitational energy, general behavior at infinity. Also included is a study of geodesic equations in the Majumdar-Papapetrou background.
