On the onset of superconductivity for the Ginzburg-Landau equations. (English) Zbl 0888.35104

Summary: We describe our results on the formation of superconducting solutions to the G-L equation. For a sufficiently large applied magnetic field no such stable solution exists. At a critical value of the field a nontrivial branch of superconducting solutions bifurcates away from the normal state. We analyze the nature of these solutions in the case where the body is a cylinder with circular cross section.
