This paper describes all irreducible representations of the group SL(2,F), where F is a finite field. Following the method of Kloosterman and A. Weil [Acta Math. 111, 143-211 (1964; Zbl 0203.033)], the author constructs two kinds of representations and then he decomposes these representations into irreducible ones. In this way, all irreducible representations of SL(2,F) are obtained. The method used in this paper also works for the same group over local fields.
