Overview[]

  • The Winged Dragon of Ra is the final and strongest of the Egyptian God Cards. This card is utilized by Marik Ishtar and Yami Marik during the Battle City arc of the series, and is described as being so grand that even the other two Egyptian God Cards cannot compare themselves to this card. To contain this power, an extra level of protection is on this card; besides the above mentioned qualification of possessing a Millennium Item, a special text on the card referred to as the Hieratic Text (古代神官文字 (ヒエラティックテキスト) ) prevents anyone who does not recite this text from using it. Also, the name of this card was printed in English in the original Japanese anime and manga: THE SUN OF GOD DRAGON
  • Using the OCG/TCG terminology, the original effects of this card may be described as follows:

Divine-Beast/Effect/DIVINE/Level 10/ATK ?/DEF ?
Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Normal Summon cannot be negated. If this card is Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated, except the effects of DIVINE monsters. If this card is Special Summoned in face-up Defense Position when an opponent's monster declares an attack or when your opponent targets another monster you control for an effect: Change the target to this card. This card is unaffected by card effects while face-up on the field and cannot be destroyed by card effects, except the effects of DIVINE monsters. Cannot be returned from the field to the hand by card effects. Your opponent cannot Tribute this card. Control of this card cannot change. Your opponent cannot equip this card with Equip Cards. If this card is Tribute Summoned: This card's original ATK/DEF become the Tributed monsters' combined ATK/DEF on the field. If this card is Special Summoned from the GY: You can activate 1 of these effects. ● (Quick Effect): This turn, this card can immediately attack all monsters your opponent controls once each, then, if your opponent controls no monsters, this card can attack directly, ignoring any cards, effects, or conditions that would prevent this card attacking. ● This turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects, you take no battle damage from attacks involving this card, this card's attacks cannot be negated, and it is unaffected by other card effects. (Quick Effect): You can pay 1000 LP; destroy all monsters your opponent controls. (Quick Effect): You can send 1 "De-Fusion" from your hand or field to the GY; this card's ATK becomes 0, and if it does, gain LP equal to that lost ATK. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this face-up card was targeted by a Spell and/or monster effect this turn: Negate that effect(s). Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned from the GY, or if this banished card was Special Summoned, this turn: Send this card to the GY if it was Special Summoned from the GY, or banish it if this banished card was Special Summoned. The activation and effects of this card cannot be negated.

  • In episode 62, this card and the other two Egyptian God Cards appear during Marik's explanation. He first explained that whoever can own all three Egyptian God Cards will be the new Pharaoh and use the Millennium Items. Marik next plans on getting the Millennium Puzzle to which he rises out of his throne and takes this card off of a table. Marik notes that he will soon combine this card with the other two Egyptian God Cards to gain the power he desires.
  • In episode 65, this card and the other two Egyptian God Cards appear in Marik's mind and his intended plan where he will be able to combine the power of the three Egyptian God Cards and the Millennium Puzzle to gain the power of the Pharaoh.
  • In episode 81, this card appears within Marik's thoughts when he notes that he will use this card to send Yami Yugi into the darkness.
    • In the same episode, this card also appears in Yami Yugi's thoughts when he notes that the Battle City Finals will be a clash against the three Egyptian God Cards.
  • In episode 85, this card can be seen when Shadi explains about the Egyptian God Cards' creation by Maximillion Pegasus. After first painting the Egyptian God Cards' artwork, Pegasus entered a dream where he saw the three Egyptian Gods bringing chaos upon Egypt and Shadi explained to Pegasus the danger he has just created. Afterwards, Pegasus realized the three Egyptian God Cards he created needed to be placed in a briefcase to be taken back to Egypt. He then gave the Egyptian God Cards to Ishizu Ishtar to seal away.
  • In episode 87, Odion (while impersonating Marik Ishtar) uses a counterfeit copy during his Duel against Joey Wheeler. He banishes this card from his hand via Odion's "Temple of the Kings". In the next episode, Joey starts to get skeptical since Odion was playing fairly while Marik actually cheats to win, convincing Marik to have Odion play the counterfeit copy to make everyone believe the lie. In the following episode, Odion Tribute Summons this card in Attack Position via "Temple of the Kings" by Tributing Odion's "Mystical Beast Serket" (which counts as three Tributes due to earlier destroying Joey's "Jinzo", "Insect Queen" and "The Legendary Fisherman" earlier) and pay half his Life Points. The counterfeit copy then attack Joey directly, but lightning appears and strikes both Duelists out cold due to the true version's anger. Whichever Duelist stood up first would win the Duel; Odion tries to before falling unconscious and Joey wins by recovering before Marik reveals himself to Yami Yugi, Joey and their friends.
    • In the second above-mentioned episode, this card appears in flashbacks Marik has. He first remembers having the Rare Hunters test out the counterfeit versions. An unknown Rare Hunter is shown using the counterfeit copy in a Duel against another Rare Hunter. The former-mentioned Rare Hunter Tribute Summons this card by Tributing his "Kamakiriman", "Boar Soldier" and "Dark Zebra". The counterfeit copy caused the Rare Hunter to be killed by a bolt of lightning. Marik next reveals to Odion that he had the Rare Hunters create multiple counterfeit copies as he couldn't risk losing the original version.
    • In the third above-mentioned episode, this card appears in flashbacks Marik has. He first notes that he had his Rare Hunters test the counterfeit copies extensively. Marik next thought that Odion could control a counterfeit copy.
  • In episode 91, Yami Marik uses this card during his Duel against Mai Valentine. The effect of Mai's "Amazoness Chain Master" adds this card from his Deck to her hand. Mai later Tribute Summons this card by Tributing Mai's "Harpie Lady Sisters", but appears in its Sphere Form. This card can only be awakened by reading the ancient chant, thus Mai realizes she can't read the text which is written in ancient Egyptian Hieratic script. In the next episode, Yami Marik recites the ancient text, taking control of this card. This card's ATK and DEF is equal to the ATK and DEF of "Harpie Lady Sisters" three times. This card then attacks Mai directly, defeating Mai despite interference from Joey and Yami Yugi.
    • In the second above-mentioned episode, this card appears in a flashback that Mai has when she notes to herself she didn't see the ancient text on this card while in her hand.

  • In episode 96, Yami Marik uses this card during his Duel against Yami Bakura with Marik Ishtar's help. Yami Bakura activates "Dark Designator" to add this card from his Deck to Yami Bakura's hand. Yami Bakura then activates "Exchange" to take this card while Yami Marik takes Yami Bakura's "Monster Reborn". In the next episode, Marik Tribute Summons this card by Tributing Yami Bakura's "Headless Knight", "The Earl of Demise" and "Goblin Zombie", but Yami Marik activates "Joyful Doom" to treat the Tributes' ATK as 0 and gain Life Points equal to the Monster Cards' total original ATK. This card's ATK and DEF is equal to the total ATK and DEF of the Monster Cards used as Tributes, thus this card useless for attacking. This card and Yami Bakura's "Puppet Master" are switched to Defense Position. Yami Bakura later Tributes this card in order to Tribute Summon "Dark Ruler Ha Des". Yami Marik later activates "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon this card in Attack Position despite Yami Marik's "Vengeful Bog Spirit". This card's effect of Point-to-Point Transfer then transfers all except 1 of Yami Marik's Life Points to this card. This card then attacks and destroys all of Yami Bakura's Monster Cards ("Dark Necrofear", "The Earl of Demise" and "Dark Ruler Ha Des"), defeating Yami Bakura and the true Marik.
    • In the first above-mentioned episode, this card appears on the computer Seto was using. Seto wonders why he can read the text on this card so easily which allowed him to know a bit more on this card's other abilities.
    • In the first above-mentioned episode, this card appears in a flashback Yami Marik has when he notes to Yami Bakura was unconscious when Yami Marik defeated Mai with this card.

"Slifer the Sky Dragon" later attacks Yami Marik's "Juragedo", but Yami Marik activates "Dark Spell Regeneration" to activate "Monster Reborn" from Yami Yugi's Graveyard (due to Yami Yugi's "Exchange") and Special Summon this card as the Egyptian God Phoenix. In the next episode, the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" targets the Egyptian God Phoenix, but didn't work as this card already had 0 ATK. The Egyptian God Phoenix then destroys "Slifer the Sky Dragon". This card then went back to the Graveyard. Yami Marik later activates "Monster Reborn" (which was added from Yami Yugi's Graveyard to his hand via Yami Marik's "Zombie's Jewel") to Special Summon this card. This card's effect of Point-to-Point Transfer then transfers all but 1 of Yami Marik's Life Points to this card in order to increase its ATK and DEF by the transferred amount. Yami Marik then Tributes "Juragedo" in order to give the ATK and DEF of "Juragedo" to this card. This card then attacks Yami Yugi directly, but Yami Yugi activates Seto Kaiba's "Fiend's Sanctuary". This card instead attacks Yami Yugi's Metal Fiend Token where the Battle Damage that Yami Yugi would take will be inflicted to Yami Marik instead. Yami Marik then activates "De-Fusion" (which he took from Yami Yugi via "Exchange") to decrease this card's ATK to 0 and increase his Life Points by this card's ATK which saves himself from losing. This card then went back to Yami Marik's Graveyard. In two episodes later, Yami Marik activates "Monster Reborn" (which he had retrieved from the Graveyard via Yami Marik's "Mining for Magical Stones") to Special Summon this card. The Egyptian God Phoenix then attacks "Obelisk the Tormentor", but "Slifer the Sky Dragon" (via Yami Yugi's "Monster Reborn") intercepts the Egyptian God Phoenix which destroys "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and saves "Obelisk the Tormentor". This card then went back to the Graveyard. Yami Marik then activates "Surprise Attack from Beyond" to repeat his Battle Phase and Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. This card's effect of Point-to-Point Transfer then transfers all except 1 of Yami Marik's Life Points to this card. Yami Yugi then activates "Soul Taker" to increase Yami Marik's Life Points by 1000 and to utilize Yami Marik's "Egyptian God Slime" as a Tribute for the effect of "Obelisk the Tormentor" to attack and destroy all of Yami Marik's Monster Cards and inflict 4000 damage to Yami Marik; this card can't be destroyed, but the damage will still be inflicted. Yami Marik then Tributes his "Bowganian" and "Swallowtail Spike Lizard" in order to transfer the two Monster Cards' ATK and DEF (and the 1000 Life Points from earlier) to this card. Yami Marik then activates "Class System" to save this card. This card then attacks "Obelisk the Tormentor", but Yami Yugi activates "Magical Dimension" which negates this card's attack. Yami Yugi then activates "Ragnarok". In the following episode, Yami Yugi's "Dark Magician" and "Dark Magician Girl" banishes this card and destroys a large part of Yami Marik while fused with this card, allowing Marik Ishtar to regain his own body and ultimately surrenders the Duel, making Yami Yugi the winner. Marik then hands this card to Yami Yugi as per Battle City's rules.
    • In the first above-mentioned episode, this card appears in a flashback Joey has when he remembers his Duel with Yami Marik and when he is explaining to his friends that Yami Marik just needs "Monster Reborn" in order to bring this card out because many of its devastating effects can be activated when it's revived.

The Egyptian God Cards are later dusted off by Solomon Muto, but are stolen by Rafael, Valon and Alister. Yugi Muto and his friends demand the Egyptian God Cards back, but the three Swordsmen refuse. On Franz's turn, he activates this card's Egyptian God Phoenix effect to destroy "Burstinatrix". He then activates this card's effect to pay all but one of his Life Points and transfer them to this card's ATK and DEF. This card then attacks Jaden directly, but Jaden pays half of his Life Points to send his "Damage Off Zone" to the Graveyard and reduce the Battle Damage from the attack 0. Kaiba then activates the last effect of "Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon" to destroy "Pyramid of Light", but it didn't work due to Anubis' interference. Anubis then took over the Duel. Yami later sensed a weakness in the "Pyramid of Light" thanks to Yugi destroying the power source for the "Pyramid". Yami then activates "Double Spell" to activate Kaiba's "Monster Reborn" from the Graveyard and revive "Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon". Yami then activates the "Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon's" Shining Nova effect to destroy "Pyramid of Light". This time the effect succeeds as not only was the "Pyramid of Light" destroyed, but so were Anubis's "Andro Sphinx" and "Sphinx Teleia". Anubis then summons "Theinen the Great Sphinx".
