HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Police have released images of a vehicle they suspect was involved in a burglary at a gaming store in Holland overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The suspect vehicle appears to be a mid-2000s Ford Focus, police say, based on the video captured by a nearby store in the same plaza as Super Hideaway Gaming store, at the corner of Washington Avenue and W 40th Street.

The burglary happened overnight Saturday, according to the Holland Department of Public Safety. Officers were dispatched to Super Hideaway Gaming around 9:50 a.m. Sunday for a report of a broken out window on the front door. Police determined a suspect stole trading cards during the overnight break-in. Store owner Aaron Mooneyhan confirmed merchandise had been stolen from the store.

“I come in and I see these two cases, all of our holders just spread through the ground. My heart sank, I just couldn’t process at that moment what I should even be doing,” Mooneyhan said.

Police: Trading cards stolen from Holland gaming store

Mooneyhan said whoever was responsible primarily took Magic The Gathering singles cards, which he explained can be valued anywhere from a penny to $1,000 each.

“The total from what was taken from my case and from what we sell online was roughly about 14 grand,” Mooneyhan said.

Around $1,600 in sealed product was also stolen.

Detectives are investigating the break-in. Anyone with information should contact the Holland Department of Public Safety at 616.355.1150, policetips@cityofholland.com, Silent Observer at 877.887.4536 or www.mosotips.com.

It’s unclear whether this break-in is related to those at “similar stores in West Michigan,” according to HDPS.

Trading cards, merchandise stolen from Grandville shop

The Gamer’s Wharf in Grandville was burglarized a few weeks ago, and surveillance footage caught a suspect stealing collector booster boxes for Magic: The Gathering, valuable single cards and miniatures for Warhammer. That suspect had entered by smashing the front door, according to the store manager.

“The fact that he just beelined it right (to) our cases and our sealed product, just like what Gamer’s Wharf and all them were saying, the same thing. He knew what he going for, all the Magic stuff, anything that’s sealed next to it he just grabbed,” Mooneyhan said.

He said people are on the lookout for the stolen cards and it’s important that whoever stole them is caught.

“After this, I just go with my insurance to try to get stuff covered but now I’m always looking over my shoulder, will this happen again? Will he hit another store?” Mooneyhan said.

Super Hideaway Gaming has launched a GoFundMe account to help cover repairs and losses, saying insurance is not expected to cover it all.
