The park, which is a popular place for families and children to jogging or play basketball and soccer at, has District Heights residents like Rukia Malipula worried for their safety.
“It was very sad that I heard that someone shot and killed a 43-year-old and I don’t know what they were doing or why that person was killed there’s no good reason to kill someone period. This is scary and I am concerned,” Malipula said.
Monica from Suitland, who didn’t want to share her last name spoke to DC News Now, and said she is also worried.
“I wasn’t aware of the shooting, so this is a bit unsettling and I come here a lot to walk my dog or to go walking and enjoy nature and they have a couple of nature walking trails here so this is pretty concerning to me. I think it’s horrible anytime a life is cut short by violence, and I am sending my prayers up for that family,” she said.
Detectives said they are working to identify those responsible and a motive.
