Curtis announced the news via Instagram on Wednesday, Nov. 13, writing in a cryptic caption, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference."

The 65-year-old actress didn't share any specific reason for leaving the Elon Musk-owned platform, but her decision notably comes in the wake of Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump has already chosen Musk for a role to lead a new "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), when he takes office in January, and Musk, 53, has been a vocal supporter of the president-elect's bid for the White House.

Curtis now joins a long line of celebrities who have already left the platform, including Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Carrey, Gigi Hadid, Toni Braxton, Shonda Rhimes, and many more who deactivated their accounts following Musk's takeover in 2022.

Most recently, X lost members like Curtis, Don Lemon and even The Guardian, in light of the election results.

The Guardian put out a statement on Wednesday to slam the Tesla owner for allowing "disturbing content" on the platform and using it as a way to "shape political discourse."

"This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism,” the publication said in a statement posted to its website. "The U.S. presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse."
