Coined by Welsh-Australian archaeologist Rhys Jones in "Fire-Stick Farming" (Australian Natural History, vol. 16, iss. 7, p. 224, September 1969).

  1. A traditional practice of the Aboriginal people of Australia whereby areas of bushland or other vegetation would be deliberately set on fire at various times in order to promote new growth.
