[edit]Etymology
[edit]Украина (Ukraina, “Ukraine”) + -о- (-o-) + питек (pitek, “austropithecus, brute”). Originally coined in mockery towards Ukrainian nationalist beliefs about their country as "the oldest nation in the world",[1] later used to dehumanize Ukrainian nationalists and people in general as fanatics, or Ukraine itself as a backwards country.
