The result of the move request was: moved. We had six !votes, and all disagreed with the proposed rationale and usage of MOS:TOPRESENT. Although optionally supported by Hey man im Josh, there was from the discussion, a second proposal by Asukite, and it was generally supported by five including Josh, but had an opposition to the fourth listed move. However, it was countered by Amakuru. (closed by non-admin page mover) Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 21:41, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

– The current date range format for the first three of these hockey leagues doesn't seem to follow the usual Wikipedia convention. I found only 27 titles like this on the English Wikipedia. As for the fourth one, I found no indication that the older New Brunswick Junior Hockey League is a primary topic over the newer one, so I suggest disambiguation. Pageviews here. If we need to pick one of the two as primary, I suggest picking the new one. Some people looking for the new one are almost certainly landing on the article about the older one by accident. There is no hatnote to indicate that a reader might have found the wrong article. There is also a New Brunswick Junior C Hockey League article. Also, is it necessary to use "ice hockey" for the Northern League rather than just "hockey"? — BarrelProof (talk) 21:58, 30 July 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Waqar💬 08:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Reading Beans 12:33, 20 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! @BarrelProof just my 2 cents, the first two seem like uncontroversial moves that wouldn't require an RM. The Kip (contribs) 16:39, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that these moves seem uncontroversial. Northern League doesnt have any sources so it could be PRODded. Conyo14 (talk) 18:21, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That seems to be true, and thanks for noticing, so I suppose the first three titles should be different. I did find a few contrary examples, such as Chicago Mustangs (2012–present), Dallas Sidekicks (2012–present), Eastern League (1938–present), Harrisburg Heat (2012–present), Major League Indoor Soccer (2022–present), Metso (2020–present), Social Democratic Party (UK, 1990–present), Southern League (1964–present), but the number of them seems pretty small, so I presume they are outliers. Also Lagos Open (2000–present), but that is an event series rather than an organization. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:08, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:TOPRESENT advises us not to "use incomplete-looking constructions such as 1982– and 1982–...". 1982–present appears to be correct. The MOS says ideally to specify when the present is, to avoid it going out of date, but I wouldn't imagine we'd do that for an article title.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:24, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: For entities that are still in operation, I suggest the birthyear should not be included in the title if it can be avoided, and that the year-to-present and year-to-cliffhanger constructions should be avoided entirely. A beginning date without an end date implies that an end date is anticipated, that there's another shoe to drop. MOS:REALTIME discourages the use of relative time references like "present" in articles because they tend to go out of date, and titles are less fluid than articles. In this case I think Northern League (ice hockey) with a disambiguating hatnote link to Northern League (ice hockey, 1966–1982) is appropriate. Buffalkill (talk) 23:02, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Relisting comment: Final relist. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 06:16, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move:
As noted above, it is unusual to use an ending dash or "—present" in a disambiguation, the year established is favorable. I also wouldn't oppose something like (ice hockey, established 2005), but that might be unnecessarily verbose. ASUKITE 20:55, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support something: I support moving to either (year–present), or the year something was founded in instances of ambiguity. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:16, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose 4, a Junior A league is primary ahead of a Junior B one. As for the first three, no objection to using the simplified (20xx) disambiguation tags. 162 etc. (talk) 15:47, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support all. These seem like sensible proposals. The defunct junior A league also needs to be moved. There's nothing like "Junior A trumps Junior B", particularly where one topic is extant and the other isn't. Overall no primary topic.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:21, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support anything but existing dangling dash per MOS:TOPRESENT: Do not use incomplete-looking constructions such as 1982– and 1982–... .Bagumba (talk) 09:12, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifying comment: The articles were moved to the titles Northern League (ice hockey, 2005), Eastern Hockey League (2013), New Brunswick Junior Hockey League (2012), and New Brunswick Junior Hockey League (1969–1983), and a disambiguation page was created at New Brunswick Junior Hockey League, as suggested by Asukite. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:47, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
