Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Gautham offl (talk | contribs) at 08:20, 19 July 2020 (→‎Current requests for increase in protection level). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Relentless vandalism from an LTA abusing the autoconfirmed rights. Blake Gripling (talk) 23:14, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:56, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – LTA vandalism and per Wikipedia:GS/COVID19. Blake Gripling (talk) 01:15, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:26, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create protection: Offensive name – The same vandal behind the vandalism at Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 moved my talk page to this. I am pretty sure that the vandal is WP:LTA/MRY, so salt this name so they can't recreate it again. SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 01:34, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Pointless.
Move protected indefinitely. your talk page instead. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:40, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism since 9 May 2020. Deoxy99 (talk) 01:54, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Requesting long-term, if temporary, semiprotection - same user from shifting IPs has kept coming back to vandalize. –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 02:56, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Respected Madam/Sir, Please take a look in the page of Medical College Kolkata. User GreaterPonce665 is editing this page disruptively. He is not familiar with our college history. This is a heritage institution established by British in 1835, the first medical college in Asia with numerous significant people as Principals such as David Here and many others. He is attempting to remove the legacy of those people in medical education in our college. Sir few weeks ago wiki admin Diannaa made the principals column by herself as I posted the required information about the history of our college. User GreaterPonce665 is not following wikipedia guidelines and using abusive words and insulting me and our college history. He stated "none of the principals are significant. whereas they are integral part of our college. Hope you will understand the significance of principals column. Please look into this matter as soon as possible. Civilguy1997 (talk) 05:44, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Three years ago, this page was extended-confirmed protected due to an edit war. I talked to the protecting admin and stated that there is zero chance for him to unprotect the article. Would consider downgrading the protection to semi. ScarletViolet tc 11:46, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: For some clarification, since I found this to be a little confusing, here's the link to their discussion. Zinnober9 (talk) 18:31, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: primary reason for protection no longer relevant due to reds hiring being made official. Will120 (talk) 17:41, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite no protection: It's a talk page on a talk page help page. It doesn't warrant protection at all. I agree that the TP help page itself should be protected due to vandalism, but the talk page on it doesn't need protection. Plus it's a TALK page meant for TALKING and EDIT REQUESTS, why are these even protected? 176.222.226.5 (talk) 10:49, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

I would like to request that... Updating the image and description below because Th3 3ra is now complete. Time for changes. Bnika33 (talk) 18:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC) Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.[reply]

Could the following entry please be added to the disambiguation page?
