QUEEN-EMPRESS ALEXANDRA'S CROWN, The United Kingdom, crowned 9 August 1902, wife of king-emperor Edward VII. This continental-style of double arches, not an English practice, was introduced by consort Queen Alexandra. She was the first consort to wear the KOH-I-NUR DIAMOND in the front cross pattée. The frame is now set with paste. Alexandra came from a poor branch of the Danish royals & dearly loved jewels. For her coronation she wore every jewel she could manage to wear to a ridiculous degree. Historical Crowns, Ducesa Kate, Delhi Durbar, Coronation Robes, British Crown Jewels, Royal Crown Jewels, Queen Alexandra, Royal Crowns, Royal Tiaras

Imperial State Crown Crown of Queen Mary of Modena Imperial Crown of India Prince of Wales' Crown St. Edwards Crown These wonderful illustrations are from The Crown Jewels of England by Sir George John Younghusband and Cyril Davenport, which was published in 1919. I love the colours, opulence and masculine softness. They have got me in the mood for some Royal research, so watch this space. All images © PoodlesRock/Corbis
