Frequently Asked Questions

Content Licensing

Our Content Providers’ policy is that any use of their name (brand), articles, quotes, images or logos for the purpose of commercial marketing and/or promotion must be pre-approved by the Content Providers (and/or PARS). The suggested uses for licensing are vetted for marketing accuracy and evaluated for a fair market value. This has become a required procedure for most major publishers helping companies to obtain rights for desired content.

The License process offers continuous quality content, securing trusted recognition while simultaneously protecting their trademark and copyright (or you can use intellectual properties in place of trademark and copyright).

On behalf of our Content Providers, PARS International will work with you to secure the appropriate use package to share good news they have published about your company.

We handle permissions licensing on behalf of many newspaper and magazine publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, TIME, Fortune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many more publications. Please use our search bar at the bottom of this page to search for the publication you are requesting from. If the specific publication does not show up, please submit your request through our Permissions Form and the Permissions Coordinator will let you know whether we can handle the publication you are requesting from.

The first person you will hear from is the Permissions Coordinator, who will acknowledge your request and may reach out to you for more information if there are details missing. After the Permissions Coordinator confirms that your request is ready for quoting, they will send your request to a Content Permissions Specialist, who will be the person sending you the fee quote and license agreement.

Your PARS Representative will be able to advise you on the best package of uses for your company needs.

The Permissions Coordinator will strive to acknowledge your request and (if applicable) reach out to you for more information within 1-2 business days after we receive your request. We respond to and quote requests in the order in which they are received, so the timing of the whole permissions process will vary on a case-by-case basis. Many factors can affect the turnaround time of your order; these factors include copyright clearance and use approval as well as materials retrieval (if requested). All licenses require a signed non-cancelable order form and may require pre-payment. “Rush Service” may be available for a premium. To get the request process started, please submit your request here.

In order to clear the copyright of the content and approve your requested use, our Publishers do require the full content and use details of your project that our request form asks you for. We can certainly give you a generic, non-binding fee quote if you provide us with estimates, but we will require more accurate/final content and use details before we send you the binding license agreement for signature, and if those details are different from the estimates you initially provide, then the fee is subject to change.

Yes, all permission licensing with PARS is subject to fees. We quote each permission request individually, based on the content and context of a request. If you are interested in receiving a fee quote for permission, please provide your full content and use details through our Permissions Request Form. All fees are quoted in US Dollars ($).

After we receive your fee acceptance, our publisher contacts will research/clear the copyright of the content and circulate your use for approval internally. We do not have direct access to our publishers’ archives and each publisher has different editorial review policies, so the timing of the clearance process varies. If the publisher is able to clear the content and approve your use, your Content Permission Specialist will send you the license agreement for signature through DocuSign (a secure electronic signature tool). If the content is not clear and/or your use is not approved, we will alert you right away.

Article Reprints, E-Prints, and Products

Article Reprints are high-quality, customized reproductions of editorial coverage featuring your company, product or industry. You can design reprints to prominently feature the coverage, which is of the greatest value to you, and even add your own corporate or promotional materials to it.

Reprints align your company with highly recognized magazine brands for a valuable third-party endorsement and can be used as sales tools at trade shows, in direct mail and much more.

As sales and marketing become increasingly Web-based, E-Prints let you link seamlessly to coverage featuring your company from your own corporate Website. PARS will obtain an electronic copy of the article and create transparent hyperlinks between your site and our own Web server. PARS will negotiate usage rights with the publisher on your behalf.

Even color copies don’t have the same impact as professional, custom-created reproductions, but sometimes they are permissible when used in accordance with publisher guidelines and copyright restrictions. A PARS consultant can determine whether your intended use requires licensing or publisher permission and, if so, we can help secure it for most publications we represent.

Minimum quantities for Reprints vary from publication to publication and may depend on the length of the article or the number pages in the reprint. In general the minimum order for custom reprints is 250.

The answer to this question differs from article to article and from publication to publication. For some magazines, writers and photographers have established contractual agreements that permit reuse; others have not. Either way, when you order from us, PARS takes care of all that. We know the guidelines set by each publication we represent and how to contact writers and photographers as necessary regarding reuse.

Sometimes your company or product is featured as part of a multi-page article or industry round-up and you only want to reuse a paragraph or two. Maybe just a great quote or the publication’s logo. Use of a logo, or more than a line or two of copy, is often illegal without the consent of the publisher and adherence to specific guidelines. PARS can advise and obtain rights and permissions for you, often within 24 hours while high-impact coverage is still timely.
