Dojo is a payment technology provider that creates tools and technology to empower over 50,000 businesses across the UK. The company’s products include integrated card machines that process payments quickly, reliably, and securely, and the Dojo app, which lets customers track their transactions in real time.

To support the scaling business and growing customer base, Dojo needed a robust, secure infrastructure and database platform that could scale securely and manage rapidly expanding workloads without performance degradation.

In addition, the company wanted to expand and improve its existing hybrid cloud infrastructure to maintain ultrafast transaction speeds for processing transaction requests from tens of thousands of customers.

Why Dojo chose Oracle

Selecting Oracle Cloud was part of Dojo's ongoing commitment to investing in the best performing technology, ensuring its customers get the best experience possible.

Dojo already ran tech and application stacks on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), as well as in Google Cloud, Equinix, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers. With the OCI FastConnect partner Equinix, Dojo can connect their on-premises to other cloud providers to implement the multicloud solutions.

Dojo selected Oracle Enterprise Database Service on OCI for powerful transaction messaging capabilities and security.

Additionally, Dojo needed to process many thousands of transactions rapidly and securely—something Oracle FastConnect could support by enabling a dedicated connection from OCI to on-premises and other public clouds, and routing data traffic strictly over trusted endpoints. Also factoring into the decision was Dojo’s long-standing relationship with Oracle.

Dojo scaled to more than 50,000 customers in just a year and a half using Oracle technology.

Results

Dojo’s transaction processing solution running on Oracle Enterprise Database Service in OCI ensures industry-leading reliability and speed for payment transactions.

Dojo’s cloud infrastructure runs over multiple locations across several service providers, with Oracle FastConnect offering a secure virtual connection to OCI. Using Oracle Cloud data centers, a complete transaction—from a customer requesting payment to final clearance and authorization—requires only 450 milliseconds in the network, or one second to the client.

Oracle Cloud also delivers enterprise resiliency with fault tolerance, as well as failover and load balancing. This ensures a maximum availability architecture for year-round operations for more than 50,000 Dojo customers.

Dojo’s Oracle stack is protected from fraud with embedded security checks and authorization mechanisms. With Oracle technology, Dojo quickly verifies merchants, identifies suspicious requests, and has full agility for defining complex fraud rules, such as monitoring a merchant’s velocity and client payment amounts.

Machine learning in Oracle Database empowers Dojo data professionals and data scientists to apply algorithms of its complex rules to prevent fraud with blacklisted credit cards and consumer profiles to continuously ensure security and minimize risk.

Additionally, OCI’s uniform pricing across all worldwide Oracle Cloud data centers helped Dojo simplify cost management.

With all of this in place, payments with Dojo are now 80% faster than the industry average. The team is also able to deliver on its promise to transfer customers their previous day’s takings 365 days a year at no extra charge, an industry first. As a result, Dojo has successfully scaled to over 50,000 happy customers in just a year and a half with the help of Oracle Cloud technology.
