After selling charcoal in town, Tanjiro returns home to find his whole family dead. Only his sister Nezuko has survived -- but she’s changed.
Tanjiro departs for the mountains with Nezuko in tow. En route, he smells blood coming from inside a temple, where he stumbles upon a gruesome scene.
Under Sakonji, Tanjiro trains to become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. But before he can join, he'll have to qualify for the Final Selection.
The Final Selection begins. Tanjiro and the other trainees must survive for seven days among demons trapped alive by Demon Slayer swordsmen.
Tanjiro is among the four survivors of the Final Selection. After acquiring a new sword, he receives orders for his first mission as a Demon Slayer.
For his first mission, Tanjiro heads northwest to a village where he meets Kazumi, whose lover has disappeared without a trace.

With the house turning with each beat of the drum, an injured Tanjiro struggles against Kyogai’s overwhelming attack.
Now outside the cursed drum house, Tanjiro finds a beaten and bloody Zenitsu, and is confronted by the belligerent man wearing a boar's head mask.
Tanjiro travels north-northeast with Inosuke and Zenitsu on their next mission. They reach Natagumo Mountain, where a spider horde resides.
With their fellow Demon Slayers under the demon spider's control, Tanjiro and Inosuke must figure a way to subdue their comrades without harming them.
After facing the mother spider, Tanjiro learns of a demon under Muzan Kibutsuji's direct command who may hold the key to turning Nezuko back to human.
While taking on the enraged father spider demon with Inosuke, Tanjiro is flung far away, where he confronts the spider demon, Rui.
Giyu Tomioka, a top-ranked swordsman of the Demon Killing Corps, arrives. Outclassed and in awe of his skills, Inosuke challenges him to a duel.
Tanjiro prepares for the worst when faced with Rui’s spell. But then, the memory of his father dancing the Kagura inspires him to unleash a new move.
Seeing a heavily injured Tanjiro still try to defend Nezuko, Rui is reminded of the one thing he craves and doesn’t have: true family connection.
Tanjiro is dragged before a gathering of the Hashira, the most powerful of Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen, to face judgment.

After his encounter with the powerful demon Daki, Zenitsu disappears. Uzui orders Tanjiro and Inosuke to leave Yoshiwara.
As Uzui searches for Hinatsuru, Tanjiro continues to struggles in his fight against Daki. He decides to attempt a new form of attack.
Tanjiro uses Hinokami Kagura breath to fight back, but Daki regains power when her obi sash escapes the demon's nest and returns to her.
With Nezuko in her demonic form, Tanjiro tries desperately to stop her from attacking an injured woman when Daki reappears, even angrier than before.
Tanjiro, Inosuke and the sleeping Zenitsu rush to Uzui's side, but he's growing weaker from the powerful poison to which he's been exposed.
Gyutaro evades Uzui and goes after Hinatsuru. Tanjiro and Uzui rush to save her, but Daki's obi blocks their way.
Tanjiro wakes up to find himself surrounded by burning debris, with Gyutaro laughing delightedly at his plight.
Despite his seeming defeat, Gyutaro is still able to unleash devastating damage upon the entire district. Tanjiro searches for his friends.
The first deaths of Upper Rank Demons in over a century cause a stir among the demons. Later, Tanjiro goes to Swordsmith Village to get a new sword.
After encountering the aloof Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito, Tanjiro learns about a special mechanical doll that can be used for combat training.

Kagaya finally comes face to face with Muzan Kibutsuji. Alerted to an attack, the Hashira and Tanjiro hurry toward the Ubuyashiki residence.
