Dear reader
On Friday, I’m hosting this year’s Naive Yearly — and you are invited.
It is an extension of this newsletter, so expect a day dedicated to the quiet, odd, and poetic web. A gathering where we expand what the internet is and can be. A place to talk about the internet in a language that amplifies wonder, myth, and quirkiness.
We will meet in Ljubljana, Slovenia, at a Renaissance castle surrounded by green, next to the Ljubljanica river. The tickets start at €15 for the entire day of talks, food, and surprises. In case the price is a concern for you, please email me.
The day is made in collaboration with the Museum of Architecture and Design in Ljubljana. Robida is adjusting the mood with soft interventions. Živa Hanc will be serving poetic compositions. Dreams takes care of the graphics. Ana and Tatjana will express the atmosphere with analog photographs. And if you can’t make it to Slovenia, Are.na will publish adapted versions of the talks later this year.
To the many, many people involved in making this happen: you make Naive Yearly better than I could ever imagine. Thank you! And thank you again to Emily and Josh for jumping in when it all looked impossible and to Sam for the ongoing support!
With care
Kristoffer

Field notes
1.
»I’m always looking for technologies that are able to better situate us within a place, and help us entangle ourselves further; where the tool enables the process of observing the world more closely, and helps us better understand our relationship with it.«
— Austin Wade Smith in A new order of regenerative kinship ⟳
The first advertisement ever in Naive Weekly? But it is super cute. A printed menu for affordable, touching websites. Please report back if you order a site.
3.
The Doc Web is Jay Springett’s iteration on Elan Ullendorff’s seminal post. Jay suggests to try a Google Doc when a newsletter or blog post doesn’t feel right. It is a good advise. So I only want to add that other document-like publishing tools exists. For example, I’m cheering for Leaflet.
4.
From Call for Participation: Submit a doc to win $100 (Leaflet), apply for a visual arts and music residence (Pioneer Works), and see if your project fits a Microgrant (Rhizome).

From Poetic Web Calendar: Artist Website Critical Night (NYC, 15/9) WordHack (NYC, 19/9), Biennial Live Event in the Everyday Digital (online, ongoing), and Naive Yearly (Slovenia, 20/9).
