Thanks to the Rumble HD in the JoyCon, you get a sense of that physical feedback you would once have got naturally from those mechanical arcade machines; you feel your seed rolling from one side of the screen to the other. And while the tension of TumbleSeed makes it a surprisingly great spectator game, this just feels right in portable mode, with that precarious, procedurally generated mountain in the palms of your hands.
Very difficult game, would definitely not recommend to everyone unless you like a good challenge. The controls are very different and unique, but it can also make it frustrating until you get used to them.
Personally, I'm 50 hours in and still play daily. There's a lot of deep strategy and even quite a few secrets! The devs are also very responsive to any problems we're having (in the TumbleSeed discord) and overall there's a great community!
Definitely a great game that for what it is managed to stay engaging to the player. If you're a fan of rogueikes, this game's for you. Just don't get frustrated. You'll die ;)
All told, Tumbleseed is a game that will certainly divide opinion. The absurdly high difficulty demands that you put up or shut up; if you don't take the time to be patient and focus on improving your skills in controlling the seed, you will not find much enjoyment here. However, if you're willing to stick it out and put in the time required to 'git gud', you'll find a deeply rewarding game with nearly unlimited replayability between the daily challenges and the constant tease of getting a better score. If you consider yourself a skilled and patient gamer, give Tumbleseed a shot. If not, perhaps something else might be a better choice.
Tumbleseed is just a game about concentration and survival. Simple to understand, incredibly hard to master. There’s a variety of different approaches to the levels, depending on your play style, and no matter what, the game will always give you a challenge.
TumbleSeed is unique and different, and has very distinctive features. It's roguelike take on a skill-based game isn't for everyone, but if you like how it sounds, give it a try.
In a generation that has struggled with finding the right balance of pace, it is refreshing to see a developer place a great deal of emphasis on patient gameplay and actually pull it off. Vertical progression and slow movements are valued over everything else, and these are the two elements that allow TumbleSeed to thrive as much as it does. Unfortunately, that same level of importance given to fine tuning the controls and concept is noticeably lacking in the level design, as roguelike randomisation is given priority over traditional, handcrafted stages. Along with too many power-ups and unlockable skills that trivialise most of the difficulty, TumbleSeed fails to live up to all its potential despite the clear amount of creativity put into its premise and a strong first impression.
Each time I finally reached a new level, I was ecstatic. However you manage it, it's as rewarding to survive as it is frustrating to fail. But when those rewards start to feel further and further apart, it can be difficult to keep coming back for another climb.
TumbleSeed has its moments with its detailed visuals, mesmerising sound design and well-built levels. It's a great indie title, but there is just one problem, this game is over before you know it. There are only 4 linear worlds, and in each there are 3 challenges to complete, but overall, once you've done everything, you simply feel unsatisfied. The game tries to trick you into thinking there is more content by sporting a daily and weekly challenge on the main menu, but none of these matter, especially since your score will be forgotten to time. If you find TumbleSeed on sale it is worth it, but not at the standard price.
Horrible ! The worst Roguelike i ever played! The game is clearly unfair and frustrating. The special seeds are terrible to use not fun like the auras. Don't buy this game!
This is one of the most terrible game in the history of game-design. This is like game for iphone called flappy bird.
The gameplay is so terrible, when you are trying to manage the character, you would like to
1) brake game-system, and put it in the garbage
2) calling game-designer **** because the gamedesign is sooo terrible: it is no possible to go further, you stuck and play agains gravity in the most terrible way.
This is the first time ever when I have the feelings that I would like my money back, and I want to sue the game-desingers. Terrible, cruel for the player. Don't bye it for the kids, becouse kid will brake the game-sysltem. Once again, this is like flappy bird.
Frustrating, janky controls (not even analog even though they use the analog sticks), unfair enemies, hidden bombs under the holes, cringeworthy NPC dialogue, crap weapons. Crap game. Save your money.
SummaryTumbleSeed is a roguelike about balancing a seed up a dangerous and ever-changing mountain. Avoid holes and defeat corrupted creatures in this dual-stick action adventure.
