An entertaining look at the history of the Kings (and few Queens) of Britain from the fictional King Arthur through to Queen Elizabeth I. At times I found Mitchell‘s humour a little cringeworthy, but this is informative if irreverent history for those who know the names (not difficult with so many Henrys and Williams) but little detail. Did nothing to improve my view of the current monarchy or their presumed right to rule.

The Serpent Queen series. Minnie Driver played Elizabeth 1. She did an excellent job. She was the best character.

#bookhaul from our used bookstore visit yesterday. Found several Christmas reads I'd been looking for, plus several others I didn't realize I was.

If you thought your family was dysfunctional you might want to compare it to this one. I credit Harry‘s ghostwriter, J.R. Moehringer, as well as Harry‘s voice for making this as interesting as it was. It‘s amazing what little a royal knows about the real world once they are pushed out of the clan (even though he seemed to know a lot about how to get by in the military). I‘m glad he wrote this - I‘m glad he could finally tell his side of things.

A fleshing out of the party alluded to in book one.

Imagine a present day America — an alternate universe, so to speak — where when America was founded, it opted to set up its own monarchy, rather than set up a democratic country. What would the US be like with a royal family? One about to get its first-ever ruling queen?

There were parts of this book that made me feel empathy and sorrow. There were parts of this book that affirmed for me the disconnect between the rich and the rest of us. While he tried to express acknowledgment of his privilege, I‘m not sure he fully understands the depths of it. That being said, I would never wish his lifelong experience and spotlight from the paparazzi and the gossip rags on anyone.
