Back from two inspiring days in Middleburg, Virginia, where we hosted our annual Transformation Forum. We met with 80 business leaders from across sectors, each at different stages of transformation, to discuss the complexities and strategies essential for success. 4 important takeaways for us: 1) Step change in Holistic Impact: Financial outcomes are important but insufficient to deliver a true transformation. Disproportionate emphasis should be placed on customer outcomes, capabilities, organizational health, and ESG. 2) Greater focus on ’how, why and who’ rather than ’what’. Most institutions know what needs to be done or have a great plan but struggle with execution (’how’), bringing the organization along (’why’) and have the right transformation expertise (’who’) to deliver holistic impact. ’If you always do what you have always done, you always get what you always got’ (Henry Ford). 3) Linking Day-to-Day with Transformation: It's vital to establish an operating backbone that manages both transformation outcomes and daily business performance. 4) Mission Alignment: Linking transformation efforts to the organization's mission is critical. Effective communication of the 'why' motivates and aligns stakeholders, making overcommunication a strategic tool for success.
