With the release of iOS18, Apple is rolling out significant updates to its Mail app, set to change how users interact with their inboxes. "This is going to be one of the most significant updates to the inbox experience that we’ve seen in years," said Tinuiti's Kellie Collins. "With Apple’s 48% email market share, we anticipate an impact to KPIs, but given some of the updates are limited to newer devices, we’ll have the benefit of seeing this impact gradually. This gives us time to get ahead and optimize before the majority of subscribers experience the new inbox. While exciting, it introduces new challenges as we adapt to an evolving subscriber experience." Read more: https://lnkd.in/e2Bpdixn #apple #ios18 #emailmarketing #lifecyclemarketing

📌Apple Yields to EU: Key Updates in the New iOS What Happened? 🔸Apple has announced updates to iOS and iPadOS to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act (#DMA). These changes include a redesigned browser choice screen and expanded default app settings, which will only be available in the #EU. What Will Change? 1️⃣ Browser Choice Screen 🔸Apple has introduced an updated interface for choosing the default browser. Users will need to scroll through the entire list of available browsers before confirming their choice. The selected browser will replace Safari on the Home Screen. 🔸This browser choice screen will be presented upon first use of a new device. For instance, when upgrading to a new #iPhone, users will have to reselect their preferred browser. 2️⃣ Default App Settings 🔸A new section will be added to settings where users can change the list of all default apps. Beyond browsers, email, app stores, and contactless payment apps, the list will now include apps for phone calls, messaging, and password managers. 3️⃣ Removable System Apps 🔸Apple will allow users in the EU to delete system apps such as #AppStore, #Messages, #Photos, #Camera, and #Safari. Deleted apps can be reinstalled later. Our Take 🔸The new browser and default app settings provide more opportunities for competing services, meaning alternative apps could significantly increase their market share within the #iOS ecosystem. 🔸The ability to remove key system apps like Safari could reduce traffic and, consequently, Apple’s revenue generated through these channels. This is a significant portion of Apple's earnings: in 2023, service revenues accounted for 29% of the company's total income. 🔸However, changing user habits won't be easy. Developers of competing apps will need to work hard to capture the attention of #Apple users and encourage them to try new services.

Apple Forces Patreon to Adopt its In-App Purchase System. Patreon will make big changes to its iOS app in November 2024 to comply with Apple's requirements. To remain on the App Store, Patreon will use Apple's in-app purchase system for all new memberships purchased through the iOS app, which involves a 30% fee. - Only new memberships made via iPhone or iPad will be affected; existing subscribers remain unaffected. - Due to the in-app purchase system's limited payment options, all Patreon creators will be moved to a subscription billing model. - The decision complies with Apple's rules but raises concerns about its impact on creators and their supporters. Patreon is committed to ensuring a smooth transition despite potential challenges such as increased costs and reduced profits. 📌Join our WhatsApp channel for the latest updates, link in the comment section👇 Follow Tech News (Lets Code) for more updates! #letscode #technews #apple #patreon #techgiants

📣 Big news for iPhone users in the EU! 📲🌐 The App Store is going to undergo a major change soon because of new rules. Apple will split the App Store into two parts, one for the EU and one for the rest of the world. This is to follow the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the EU, which means users will be able to install apps from other stores and not just Apple's. 🚀 This change is happening because Apple needs to meet the requirements of the DMA. It will give users more options for where they get their apps and allow developers to promote their apps in different ways. 💪 The deadline for Apple to make these changes is March 7th. Are you excited about this change? How do you think it will affect the app world? Share your thoughts in the comments! Check out the full article in the comments below! 👇 #ios #appstore #iosdeveloper

Apple is ending support for progressive web apps (PWAs) for iPhone users within the EU, stirring concern among developers and users alike. This decision comes as a definitive blow to the accessibility and functionality of web-based applications on Apple devices. The move to discontinue web app support has been apparent in each iteration of the iOS 17.4 beta, with users experiencing persistent issues. However, Apple has now clarified that this is deliberate. In an update posted on its developer website, Apple disclosed its decision, citing the complexities of aligning web apps with the requirements of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) as the primary reason. The company asserted that complying with the DMA would necessitate the creation of an entirely new integration architecture, a task deemed impractical alongside other mandated changes. Notably, one of these changes mandates Apple to permit third-party browsers to utilise their own engines on iOS. #SoftwareSales #SalesMeeting #ElevatedPitch #Solicy #relationshipsmatter #Apple

I created Flappy Bird for the Apple Vision Pro yesterday. In less than 12 hours, it was approved for the App Store. For context, I uploaded my app to App Store Connect at 10:43 PM last night. I woke up this morning to the message, "Your submission was accepted for release on the App Store." This is both exciting and a bit shocking! I've published plenty of apps on the App Store and none have been reviewed and accepted as fast as this one. Typically, it would take an app at least a week or two to be reviewed and then accepted. So, why is Apple reviewing apps for the Vision Pro so quickly? Quite frankly, because there are not that many apps released exclusively for this device right now. Many apps, like YouTube and Netflix, aren't even available on the Vision Pro. My bet is that Apple wants developers to build for this device as soon as possible so people with a Vision Pro have an actual use for this device. I'm excited to be one of the first apps exclusively available on the Apple Vision Pro. If you're interested in seeing the store page, I will post a link in the comments. #visionpro #spatialcomputing #apple #ar

Posted From Mid Atlantic Consulting Blog - iPadOS 17.4 references new Apple Pencil that works with Find My Solid evidence points to Apple Pencil 3 participating in the Find My network, allowing you to see its location on the map in the Find My app. The Find My network comprises hundreds of millions of Apple devices that sense other nearby devices and report their location to the Find My network. This lets you track compatible devices in the Find My app, even if offline or disconnected. Apple currently offers three different Apple Pencil models. However, none of them can be tracked using Find My on iP .... (Click link to read entire article) https://buff.ly/3SzLNvf

3rd-party browser engines, this is huge. Chrome in all of it’s glory without some of the drawbacks/restrictions of iOS/iPadOS. Under the radar and highly unlikely without pressure from the EU, supporting 3rd-party web browser engines was one of the greatest sins Apple could ever commit against the foundation that Master Steve Jobs established. Side-loading apps would have been the ultimate of them all. Ever since the iPhone first started supporting #developer’s #apps, especially if it was a web browser, the #1 rule, mobile #Safari, and not even the more capable version, was required to be used as the browser engine. Why? User experience and performance. Mobile browsers have always been less capable on #smartphones because of processing, system and storage memory resource restrictions. Steve jobs hated Adobe Flash, the main driver at the time for early web apps, so limiting web browser engines to one, mobile safari, which did not support Flash in anyway, great user experiences were maintained on iOS devices. Fast forward to today. iPhones and their Android equivalents are way more capable with desktop class processors, much more memory and system resources. So, browsers like #chrome, #microsoftedge, #firefox and others will, for the first time be able to use their own browser engine, for better or worse. This means support for some of the same advanced rendering engine, extensions and other capabilities that we now on the desktop. Yay. #apple #google #webbrowsers
