115 employees of the Tata Institute of Social Scienes (TISS) were laid off in June 2024. Reason: Lack of funds to pay their salaries, a common cause of layoffs. This is not unusual. But THIS part is. When Mr. Ratan Tata was informed about this, he was concerned. Layoffs can disrupt families, and the lives of children involved. He immediately acted on it. Mr. Tata provided additional financial grants, which helped TISS withdraw the termination notices. TISS asked the employees to continue their work and retained them. Layoffs are common, reversing layoffs of 100+ people is not. Employers prioritize the company. Mr. Tata prioritized the people. So many families I personally know credit their children's education, family's stability and well-being to Mr. Tata and his work. Ratan means a 'gem'. Few are those who live true to the meaning of their names. Mr. Tata sure did. True hallmark of a leader, a visionary and, most importantly, 'a good man'. Nation pays tribute to a life truly 'well-lived'. #ratantata #tata #tribute #rip

I am short of words praising Ratan Tata Ji after reading so many articles, stories and instances about him. I will certainly try to adapt at least one of his qualities to pay tribute to him.

What an inspiring story! Mr. Ratan Tata's actions exemplify the profound impact that compassionate leadership can have on both individuals and communities. His decision to provide financial grants not only preserved jobs but also reinforced the importance of valuing human capital over mere financial metrics. This kind of empathetic leadership fosters loyalty, enhances morale, and ultimately contributes to a more resilient and dedicated workforce. It's a powerful reminder that true leadership is about lifting others up, especially in challenging times.

Each such post feels so good. Thinking a little more critically, a Deep understanding of the struggles of humanity, and sense of reverence for every human and in turn giving cognizance to the human communities was imminent in Sir Tata's decisions.

There are great business men and there are great nation builders. "Very few are both" #RATANTATA

While financial constraints are often unavoidable in business, the decision to prioritize people over profits, especially when families and livelihoods are at stake, reflects a rare level of responsibility and compassion. His actions reflect a visionary who understands that organizations thrive when their people do. RIP

Great news! Great gentleman had concern about employees and their families.
