Day-off infograph. There's a small issue with this one. The command "cat" is used to conCATenate two text files together, and has a quirk in that if you give it just one file, it will print the contents to standard output ^_^ If you want to create a new file, it's best to use the "touch" command, or open a text editor and save the file.

Book editor | Supportive and thoughtful line editing and copyediting for authors of literary and experimental fiction | Cookbook copyeditor and proofreader | Editorial support for change-makers
Can I tell you how excited I am to see the way Paul Beverley's CopyToList macro has evolved over the past year? For copyeditors, this macro is transformative (see the note at the end of this post if you're unfamiliar with it). It was only about eight months ago that I reached out to Paul to ask about making CopyToList compile words in a list *alphabetically*. He hopped on the case, and CopyToListAlphabetic was born. Just this morning, inspired by the latest Macro of the Month newsletter that discusses ways you can copy words to *separate lists* in your style sheet, I created two new macros using CopyToListAlphabetic as the foundation. Here's what they do: 1. Record words that I want to revisit later in a separate list (because sometimes as I'm reading, I realize I need to double-check the spelling of a character's name throughout the manuscript or a given word like "hmm," but I need to retain my focus on the passage before switching tasks). 2. Copy quoted material to the style sheet (for the author or publisher, I document in the style sheet any quoted passages that may require permissions as well as flag the passage in the manuscript). Creating these new macros was as simple as renaming the macro, changing one word in the code that tells the macro where to put the words, and applying a keyboard shortcut to run the macro. Just like that, my editing tasks are simplified. Now I'm off to buy Paul a coffee, or six, to say thanks (https://ko-fi.com/mrmacros). If you're daunted by macros, I get it. I was, too, for a long, long time. Jennifer Yankopolus offers some great courses to get you started. Once you have a few in place, you'll wonder how you ever worked without them! NOTE: For those unfamiliar with the macro, CopyToListAlphabetic allows you to record words to your style sheet with one keystroke; no copying and pasting, no opening the style sheet and navigating to your word list. Just run the macro and keep reading!

Rich text in Content Blocks? Yes, please! 🎉 Product update: Every Block is now a rich text document, like a Notion page or Google Doc. Rich text formatting makes it easier to format your work, create tables, intersperse images, videos and other media, and more. Importantly, it also removes the jarring transition between reading a nicely formatted Content Block, and then having to edit it in plain text. Block inputs and outputs both support rich text formatting. Try it here: https://app.hunch.tools

## How do I create a text file using the "vi" editor? To create a text file using the `vi` editor, you can follow these steps: 1. Open a terminal. 2. Type the following command to create or open a text file with `vi`: vi filename.txt (Replace "filename.txt" with the desired name for your text file.) 3. Press `i` to enter insert mode. Now, you can start typing your text. 4. Once you finish typing, press `Esc` to exit insert mode. 5. Type `:wq` and press `Enter` to save and quit the `vi` editor. If you want to quit without saving, press `Esc` and then type `:q!` and press `Enter`. This will exit `vi` without saving changes.

😍 When you upload a PDF in Claude, it can now view both images and text! The Anthropic API also now supports PDF input. The PDFs can't have more than 100 pages and not be larger than 32MB. How does it work? 1. Each page of your document is converted into an image 2. The text from each page is extracted and provided alongside the page’s image 3. Claude analyzes both the text and images to better understand the document. This means you can ask for insights on visual elements of a PDF, such as charts, diagrams, and other non-textual content. This is a feature preview, so you have to toggle it on to enable.
