Today we're shining a light on the brilliant Elle Lett, PhD, MA, MBiostat - a Black, transgender woman, statistician-epidemiologist and physician-in training. She coined the term “health equity tourism”, which describes when privileged and previously unengaged scholars enter the health equity field without developing the necessary expertise. Why is health equity tourism a problem? 👉🏿 Weakens research depth and insight. 👉🏿 Diverts resources from committed scholars. 👉🏿 Overshadows authentic, experienced voices. 👉🏿 Reinforces harmful narratives. 👉🏿 Creates misleading research outcomes. 👉🏿 Hinders true progress in health equity. Helping to build strong, female-identifying youth begins with helping them to build and set boundaries. All youth should feel comfortable speaking up, advocating for themselves and what they care about, saying no, and demanding respect from others. Teaching boundaries helps to keep female-identifying youth safe, build resilience, and in honor of Women’s History Month, react to this post and tell us how you feel about helping youth to build and set boundaries: 👏 if you feel great  👍 if you feel good but could use improvement  ❤️ if you feel like you or your agency could use some work 💡 if you want us to follow up with you with some resources 

"Reshaping your story" workshop - what incredibly powerful and thought-provoking insights into HOW we can support others (especially DV-affected women) in finding and owning their own solutions through story telling "Narrative Practice". Hosted by the Women's Ethnic Network of Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, trainer, Leanne Levinge of Big Hill & Oyster Counselling, took us through the concepts of Narrative Practice as an intrinsic way of realisation and finding individual paths/ways of dealing with not only Domestic Violence, but also other problems. I particularly loved the "Tree of Life" activity, shown on the photo. The key is deep/double listening - not telling, or giving advice, or "categorising" people and their problems - but letting them come to their own conclusions through gentle questioning and LISTENING. I learnt so much that I want to put into practice when talking to people of all cultures and religions. Huge thanks to ECCQ and WEN for yet another important and meaningful workshop. I can highly recommend these events as they provide tangible outcomes and resources for us within our community and dealing with other (multi) community members.

Dr. Mukwege’s story is not just about medicine or conflict, it’s a testament to resilience, courage, and the unbreakable spirit of women who have endured the unthinkable. Dr. Mukwege relentless fight against #SexualViolence in conflict zones and his compassionate care for survivors remind us of the critical need to center women’s voices and experiences in our work and lives. This book serves as a call to action. It challenges us to stand up against injustice, advocate for survivors, and continue the fight for #GenderEquality, no matter where we are or what we do.
