Adaptability and Innovation!! South Korea transformed into a technology-savvy nation through strategic investments in education, infrastructure, and innovation. Post-Korean War, it prioritized education, reducing illiteracy from 78% to 4% within a decade. For example, LG Electronics began as a cosmetic company, Luk- Hui, with its first product, the Lucky Facial Cream, launched in 1947. This cream was pivotal in establishing the brand, which later expanded into various sectors, including electronics and household goods. Over the years, LG evolved into a global leader in the tech industry & electronic goods. In 1958, the company expanded into electronics under the name Goldstar. By 1983, it merged the two brands into "Lucky Goldstar." To enhance its global presence and simplify branding, it rebranded to "LG" in 1995, which is also associated with the slogan "Life's Good. South Korea's industrial strategy significantly influenced LG's evolution into a global company. The government's focus on export-driven growth and technology development provided a supportive environment for LG's expansion. Policies encouraged innovation and infrastructure development, allowing LG to invest in research and development, particularly in electronics and chemicals. Today, LG is a major global technology leader with operations in electronics, chemicals, and telecommunications LG's ability to adapt to market changes and invest in new technologies, such as AI and eco-friendly products, has kept it competitive and relevant in the global market. This is lessons to be learned by every leader. The world is changing very fast. #adaptability #innovation

My latest Supply Chain Matters Apple supply chain commentary focuses on Tim Cook's Southeast Asia business trip last week that has brought forth indications of added Asia based sourcing and production options to include Vietnam and Indonesia among other nations. I pose a rather question as to whether there will be considerations toward a US near-shored or domestic iPhone production presence to complement the various new advanced semiconductor processor fabs planned for the US over the coming 2-3 years. Then again, we have posed this question many times before. https://lnkd.in/eRUvPH6g #supplychainmanagement #strategicsourcing

VIETNAM EMERGES AS A GLOBAL HUB FOR ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING Vietnam is solidifying its position as a premier destination for electronics manufacturing, attracting significant investments from global giants. Samsung, Foxconn, Lenovo, and Apple are among the notable companies expanding their production capabilities in Vietnam. Major players like Samsung, Foxconn, Lenovo, and Apple are ramping up their investments. Foxconn has announced a $270 million investment in Bac Giang and plans to invest $40 billion in the coming years. Additionally, Samsung and LG are increasing their investments, with Samsung planning to raise its investment to $20 billion. These developments highlight Vietnam’s emergence as a key global hub for electronics manufacturing Vietnam's appeal includes lower labor costs, a stable currency, and favorable tax incentives. The country offers a young, dynamic workforce and strategic geographical location, making it an attractive hub for high-tech manufacturing. Despite these advantages, Vietnam faces challenges such as over-reliance on foreign direct investment (FDI), inadequate local supply chains, and limited domestic technological capabilities. Only 26.72% of the ICT sector's revenue comes from "Made in Vietnam" products. With ongoing investments and government support, Vietnam's electronics sector is poised for robust growth, contributing significantly to the country's economy and enhancing its role in the global supply chain. The consumer market in HK is sluggish, and the retail industry has become difficult to operate, because people are accustomed to go to mainland China, for better consumption experiences. However, Xiaomi Technology in HK didn't reduce its retail resources, actively opened directly-operated stores in communities just a short period of time! So what is the company's strategy? Xiaomi's Entry Sparks Price War in the EV Market, Cementing China's Lead It's indeed a significant development in the EV market with Xiaomi entering with aggressive pricing strategies. This move could intensify price competition, especially with Chinese manufacturers like BYD already offering competitive prices. While Xiaomi may incur losses initially, they aim to gain market share, tapping into China's supportive environment for EVs. However, potential pushbacks from the West, such as trade tariffs, could arise. Yet, the affordability of these EVs may find traction in developing nations. China's dominance in the global EV industry seems imminent, leveraging abundant resources and government support. Time will tell how all shapes out eventually.
