Accessibility is not just a feature; it's a fundamental aspect of inclusivity and equality on the web. As a product guy, I firmly believe in creating digital spaces that are accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities. Let's build a web that's inclusive and accessible to everyone.

What I'm learning today that I like to share! It's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines #(WCAG). There are #4principles to focus on, which provide us with a comprehensive framework for understanding #WCAG best practices. So let's take a look! Principle 1: #Perceivable  Do users with disabilities have a way to perceive content through sight, hearing, or touch? Principle 2: #Operable  Can the content be operated using inputs such as keyboard and speech? Principle 3: #Understandable  Is the content easy to read and navigate? Principle 4: #Robust  Does the content work well with different devices and technologies? So, what we can do as #UXdesigners? We can start implementing the following: - Using plain language and avoid jargon.  - Including meaningful alternative text for all images. - Adding audio descriptions to videos. - Providing accurate captions and transcripts for videos, as well as transcripts for audio content. - Using sufficient color contrast between text and its background. Check with the #A11Y #ColorContrast #AccessibilityValidator. - Not relying on color usage alone to convey information. - Labeling #form fields appropriately. - Ordering headings in a nested hierarchy, and do not skip #heading levels or leave empty headings. - Writing link text that describes the purpose of the link and makes sense when read out of page context. - Making sure tables have headers and are used to present data rather than to establish a visual layout. As a strong believer in accessible technology, I'm here to tell you that screen reader overlays like accessiBe are not the answer to website accessibility. While these tools can be a temporary fix, they often create a limited and inconsistent experience for screen reader users. True accessibility is about building websites from the ground up to be usable by everyone, regardless of ability. Instead of relying on band-aid solutions, let's focus on building accessible websites with proper coding practices. Educating developers on WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and best practices is also crucial. By advocating for the benefits of accessibility, not just for users with disabilities, but for a better user experience overall, we can create a more inclusive web environment. Imagine navigating a building with multiple inaccessible staircases – a temporary ramp helps, but wouldn't a lift from the start be a better solution? I always have a question in mind "Why overlays are not being created for testing purposes?" they will positively gain popularity. and then I decided to create a toolkit to help the testers quickly identify accessibility issues. Here are a couple of Q&As for you! What is the HalfAccessible toolkit? HalfAccessible is a Chrome-only extension that provides powerful features to enhance your accessibility testing journey. It includes features such as a target size checker, text spacing, automated accessibility and color issues, and an HTML code copier. Why is accessibility testing important? Accessibility testing is important because it helps ensure that your website or application is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. By making your website or application accessible, you can reach a wider audience and provide a better user experience for everyone. How to use the HalfAccessible toolkit To use the HalfAccessible toolkit, simply install the extension from the Chrome Web Store (https://lnkd.in/dxdE6xdZ). Once installed, the extension will be available in the toolbar. To use the extension, simply click on the icon and select the feature you want to use. #Day28 of Women Who Code Coding Challenge! 🦋 My main plan of action today was to get my logout functionality working. Now that that's done, I can move on to making my application (still working on a unique name) more aesthetically pleasing! 🦋 One thing that I am working on this year is my frontend skills. I love being creative, but getting that to translate into my applications UI is a work in progress! 🦋 I also want the site to be up to accessibility standards when it comes to color schemes.
