Navigating your upcoming internship: What you should know before diving in Embarking on an internship marks a significant milestone in your academic and professional journey. It's an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, gain valuable experience, and expand your professional network. However, stepping into the realm of internships can be both exciting and daunting. Here's what you should know before diving into your internship: 1) Know your company - You should show up the first day with a solid understanding of your host company. Go beyond the quick search and work out the Business Model Canvas. You can discuss it with your intern manager when you get there to ensure you captured it correctly. 2) Know your role - Beyond the title, you should understand the reporting structure, responsibilities, project scope, timelines, and where to send the deliverables. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification. 3) Know your place - That might sound a bit harsh, but recognize that you are a guest. Take the time to get to know the culture. Ask thoughtful questions. Learn to read the room. And before you jump in and tell them everything they are doing wrong, pause and try to understand the context first. 4) Set a schedule - Regular check ins will be tremendously helpful, especially early on. Meet early in the week to discuss deliverables. Check in mid-week to make sure you are on the right track. Do a weekly debrief explaining what you did, what you are still working on, and where you need support. 5) Manage up - It is imperative that you communicate your limits with your manager. If they are giving you too much work, have a conversation and see if they have any strategies to help you. If they aren't giving you enough work, don't take the day off. Ask for more. 6) Receive feedback gracefully - Feedback is a gift. Don't get defensive. Say thank you. And then, be sure to address the issue. Again, if you don't understand or if you need support, ask for it. 7) Accept the work you are given - Don't ever tell the manager you don't want to do something! Let your work speak for you. Then, when you do a good job consistently, ask if there is an opportunity to take on more responsibility. 8) Come to meetings prepared - Value your managers time. Come with an agenda and get to the point. 9) Communicate, communicate, communicate - And when you think you have... communicate again. (Oh, and be brief). 10) This is a job interview - Don't forget that! Approaching your internship with clear goals, a willingness to learn, and a professional attitude will set you up for success. By taking proactive steps to understand your role, build relationships, and embrace new experiences, you'll not only make a positive impression but also gain valuable insights that will shape your future career path. So, dive in, stay engaged, and make the most of this valuable opportunity!

We are pleased to announce that we have prepared educational internship for another Specialist role. This time we are focusing on Goalkeeper Coaches. ▶️ 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐃ü𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐟 (𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦) | 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 Fortuna Düsseldorf is a Club that collaborates with us on various internship levels. In September we are organising an internship for Fitness Coaches at the Academy (still vacancies), while already in July there is a great offer waiting for up to two Goalkeeper Coaches to appear for internships with Fortuna's first team. 🔰 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞 | 23-26.07 🔰 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚 | 🔹 presentation of the goalkeeper preparation concept 🔹 presentation of the goalkeeper training methodology 🔹 interaction | networking 🔹 observation of training sessions of the first team (focus: goalkeepers) 🔹 analysis of traning sessions (focus: goalkeepers) 🔹 possibility to consult the Goalkeeper Coach 📧 Details of this internship, as well as other open educational visits, can be found on the FDI website (direct link in comments). You can also write us a private message for details. 💬 Marcin Gabor (𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐃𝐈): - No internship in our portfolio is a coincidence. We select them according to a key that meets several conditions. By this I mean the different characters of the Clubs, the quality of the work at a particular Club, the potential internship programme, the Specialists directly responsible for the educational visit, and the openness to the Interns. It was important to me that the Goalkeeper Coaches who wanted to learn went to Fortuna Düsseldorf, because Christoph Semmler is responsible for this substantive segment in the first team. I have known Christoph for many years and can speak about him in only superlatives. A great Specialist, gathering experience in various places and on various levels, a professional Expert and a good person. Christoph is also an FDI Expert for goalkeepers and I am convinced that the July internship will be at a very high level. Please note: we only have two spaces available.
