Twitter is shocked by OpenAI's new video AI they released yday. Below is a side-by-side between one of the top video AI startups, Pika Art, and OpenAI's new SoraAI model that I made. In less than a year: ✅ Longer videos: 4s vs 60s ✅ Compelling photorealism (b-grade commercial quality) ✅ Multiple people with movement ✅ Dynamic camera movement/tracking shots ✅ Consistent clothing/faces/text Sora AI is blowing up on X, but it's still in closed beta so let's stay skeptical. My take on commercial uses once it's out: - Making B-grade commercials/ads - Filling missing scenes that can't be reshot - Adding b-roll to Youtube videos - Concept trailers/storyboarding I'm skeptical of the UX & how many prompts were required to get the Sora examples on their site, but the progress of the model is exponential. Will it meet the hype or flop?

I recently had the opportunity to speak at an AI event hosted at Stanford University by Aligns.AI, focusing on the OpenAI GPT Store. My remote presentation highlighted my Song Maker GPT extension and exploring the potential of the GPT Store. Here are my key takeaways from the event: - The GPT Store is a new way for startups/companies to leverage ChatGPT for marketing, with standout GPT extensions like Canva (1M+ uses), Consensus (2M+ uses), Wolfram (200k+ uses), and AI PDF (700k+ uses) demonstrating innovative uses ranging from content creation to data summarisation. - Many AI startups struggle because they are a wrapper around Big Tech. To not be a thin wrapper focus on niche or untapped markets, personalised services, and customer support. - With over 2 million GPT extensions available, differentiation is key to stand out in the store. For example, my Song Maker GPT uses GPT4 to write a Python function call that makes MIDI soundtracks from lyrics. The Grimoire GPT (800k+ uses) not only helps write code for websites but also deploys it automatically for the user to see it by using the Netlify API. Many creators have found success by innovatively promoting their GPTs on social media - for example, one creator open-sourced their GPTs on GitHub and received significant promotion from that. Yesterday I posted about this prediction... and a day later... guess what? It happened! OpenAI is taking on Perplexity and launched SearchGPT. Even though Perplexity uses their API, it also uses other models. "Meta AI, Google, & xAI could destroy OpenAI & Claude sooner or later... (Distribution) ...Expect to see these companies pivot, possibly by absorbing AI startups built on their platforms, as they aim to control distribution directly." I wouldn’t be surprised if OpenAI starts munching on every AI startup that uses more tokens on their platform. The more used, the closer to product market fit, and they will be afraid of these startups finding better options with open-source models. So, OpenAI might devour or acquire them before their churn or before other big players with social media distribution jump on it. Follow me if you wanna get insights from the future—just kidding!

The #1 reason OpenAI just launched Swarm: They’re aiming to be the foundation. OpenAI wants to be the brain behind your apps. Not just chatbots. But agents ones that do things on their own. They’re making it super easy for developers to build on this. Meta's playing too, giving away LLaMA to lure in devs. Their angle? Use free tools to build a bigger ecosystem. But OpenAI is saying: “Why go there when you can build smarter, faster, easier with us?” Here’s why OpenAI launched Swarm: 1- Dominating the intelligence layer. 2- Simplifying complex agent creation. 3- Focusing on developer ease. Here’s the truth: OpenAI knows If they control the AI operating system They will control everything.

Can we please stop tacking "AI" onto things for little to no reason? OpenAI's APIs are easy to use. Just because you implemented a chatbot with some buttons into your app or something that summarizes some content doesn't mean it's now "AI enabled". All you've done is abstract a web app that already exists and added bloat to your application. I'm all for implementing AI in ways that deliver actual useable business results and efficiencies, but let's stop using it as a gimmick to sell junk to folks with less technical knowledge. Focus on building amazing core products and experiences first, then figure out how using AI can augment actual proven features.

Llama 3.1 and other open-source models are setting the pace, proving customization to specific enterprise needs is where true value lies. Big players like OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Google etc are heavily invested in enterprise APIs. But I’m betting on open-source as the future—its rise could slash these giants' market shares by half or more. Meta AI, Google & xAI could destroy OpenAI & Claude sooner or later... There's something funny going on. The same kind of story we heard about no-code tools -- they're going to make it so anyone can create their startup, no need for devs anymore, etc. -- are now being told (often by devs!) about generative AI: anyone can create a great brand, AI will take care of masterful marketing, etc. Even though no-code has had a huge impact, it certainly hasn't led to mass unemployment for devs. Even though generative AI is having a huge impact, it ins't going to lead for mass unemployment for marketers/creatives.
