Here are the tools that I use to automate the tedious parts of tech writing so I can focus on the fun parts. The tedious part of a tech writer's job is repeating. They copy and paste the same text to re-format it, they repeat file copying and deleting to produce final files, they repeat other tasks that aren’t actually writing content. https://lnkd.in/ee29Mcbn

🚀 Embracing the Technical Writer Life: A Tale of Commas and Coffee ☕️ So, there I was, in the trenches of technical documentation, armed with nothing but a keyboard and a relentless love for Oxford commas. 💻💡 As a technical writer, I've mastered the art of turning jargon into joy and user manuals into page-turners. From deciphering code comments to wrangling runaway parentheses, every day is an adventure in the world of syntax and semantics. 📝🤓 And let's not forget the coffee—the lifeblood of every tech writer. With enough caffeine, I can conquer even the most labyrinthine API documentation. ☕️💪 So here's to all my fellow technical writers out there—may your code snippets compile, your bullet points align, and your documentation be forever user-friendly. Keep calm and document on! 🚀✨ #technicalwriting #techhumor #documentationmatters #documentation # ...

Lead with empathy and respect. Even if you aren’t a leader in title. As a tech writer I work with engineers on internal docs. The best way to get them to help me improve documentation is by respecting their time and meeting them in the middle. When I work with other writers across the company, I share my knowledge and my time freely. There is no sense in hoarding a SQL script I wrote if it could help other writers. Give people your time, your respect, and empathy, and they will respond in kind. And not only that, it builds trust and respect amongst your team.

It's a sad day for me. I've been using TextMate as my primary writing tool for close to 20 years, and it feels like abandonware now—no updates for 3 years. Everything is ephemeral... I've been using Panic, Inc.'s Nova, and I do really like it for larger projects. However, when I need to quickly jot down some Markdown or a quick script, TextMate is unmatched in its lightness, speed, and extensibility. Plus, it's not an Electron app like so many other editors out there. What do you use for your daily driver text editor? Not code editor, but when you just need a blank screen and some Markdown?

This one is too good.🤣 Why did the developer bring a technical writer to the bug fix meeting? Because when they explain it, even the bugs feel documented and understood! #infodev #technicalwriting

A lot of techies tend to underestimate how important, a good technical documentation is. Consider going back to that project you worked on without documentation five years ago and see how difficult it is for even you, the developer to understand. Now imagine how it’d be for someone that’s not the owner of the project #developer #documentation #contentwriter #technicalwriting
