Fellow L&Ders, sometimes hearing the truth about your learning program not being seen by the learner as directly correlating with their daily work is hard to take in and accept, but don’t make excuses for such feedback. Instead, face the music and assess and analyze the feedback… make it your starting point to take action to create better learning… this is your opportunity to genuinely help your learners learn! #LearnerFeedback #OpportunitiesForImprovement #CreateBetterLearning #LearningAndDevelopment #LnDArchiTina

Learning doesn’t happen in a vacuum, so why do we build walls? Digital and virtual spaces allow learners of all ages to investigate, discover, and activate their world through authentic experiences. In order to make learning real, we must create access points through our curricula and instructional practices that allow for discussion, debate, idea sharing, and action. Without these steps, as trainers and teachers, we lose our learners in the dark spaces of presentation. Step back from the dated chalkboards and desks, worksheets and red pens. We are no longer the bearers of knowledge…we are the catalyst for creation! Let’s dream.

I want to thank Mirko Benischke for inviting me to discuss instructional design systems and sharing this insightful webinar on the #ActiveAdaptiveApproach. The Active Adaptive Approach focuses on #personalization. However, different institutions and #instructionaldesign #models have different approaches to that. The Active Adaptive Approach for #learning #personalization emphasizes four key areas: #curriculum, time, #learningoutcomes, and teaching and learning activities. I would add a #studentprofile to the list for #learningpersonalization. It is essential not only to what we personalize but also to who we personalize learning. They say it takes a village to raise a child. And that couldn’t be anywhere further from the truth. Any initiative, let alone #enhancement of #teaching and #learning #experiences, requires a well-orchestrated #team. It is like a team sport where success depends on everyone’s effort (see time stamp 35:20 in the video). I really recommend watching this webinar to gain new perspectives on #instructionaldesign.

It's an age-old debate among L&D professionals. Should you include learning objectives in your course or not? 🎓 Learning objectives can provide clear direction and measurable outcomes, but some argue they can also limit creativity and learner engagement. Introducing objectives at the outset can feel like knowing a movie plot before watching it—learners thrive on surprise and curiosity. Others argue that unless a learner knows what’s in it for them, they won't engage with the course. In this Vyond video, we aim to strike a balance by introducing the major topics in the course without delving into excessive detail that might bore the learner. In my mind, I like to include some form of objectives with the goal being to briefly answer learners #1 question when they start a learning experience, "What's in it for me?" 💡 What do you think? Do you prefer to outline clear learning objectives at the start of a course, or do you think a more flexible, discovery-based approach works better? Let's discuss! #LearningAndDevelopment #InstructionalDesign #OnlineLearning #Elearning

Being a former educator and prospective instructional designer, I am very interested in the process of learning. Today, while perusing LinkedIn, I came across a post that discussed The Super Mario Effect. If you've never heard of this, the Super Mario Effect, coined by Mark Rober, draws an analogy between playing Super Mario video games and learning. In the game, players learn through trial and error, persisting despite failure until they succeed. Similarly, in learning, embracing mistakes and setbacks as part of the process can lead to better understanding and mastery. The concept encourages learners to adopt a 'level up' mindset, where challenges are seen as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. As a former educator and aspiring instructional designer, I find the parallels between gaming and learning both intriguing and promising. The Super Mario Effect offers a refreshing perspective on how we approach challenges and setbacks in education, emphasizing the importance of resilience and growth mindset. I look forward to exploring how this concept can be integrated into instructional design practices to create engaging and effective learning experiences.

Helping you create courses like you give a sh*t | Learning Experience Designer | Teaching Adults Online since 2009
Good learning design is about crafting just the right experience to help solve a problem for specific people, but it's also about the teacher. How the teacher experiences the course (whether that’s you or someone else or several someone elses) is important. It needs to be sustainable. So really good LXD is about understanding users' needs and finding a balance between the needs of all stakeholders to create the best experience possible for teaching and learning that results in learner success and problems solved. See the carousel for how your own context shifts what that might look like 👇 #learningdesign #balance #coursecreation

The personalization of learning, while conceptually appealing, demands a nuanced examination. 😌 The mirage of a utopian educational experience, customized to each learner's unique profile, begins to dissipate when confronted with the practical challenges and potential pitfalls. 🌪️ As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, it is crucial to approach the concept of personalized learning with a critical lens, acknowledging its limitations and carefully considering the implications for both students and educators alike. 🤔💡For me, as an experience designer, it is fundamental to attend to the special needs of each student. Ask me how? #evoidcannedproducts #qualityfirst
