Grateful for the opportunity to be a panelist at today's Becoming TECH Part I, where I engaged with current and prospective Flatiron School students. The discussion centered around cultivating a tech-oriented mindset and embracing a growth mindset. Reflecting on my journey as a Software Engineer and my passion for lifelong learning, I was truly delighted to share my experiences and give tips on thinking tech. The conversation's essence was beautifully encapsulated by Angela Duckworth's concept of 'Grit' — the remarkable combination of passion and perseverance. It's about facing obstacles head-on and persevering until you achieve your goals. Celebrating Small Wins: Acknowledging and celebrating the small victories along the way is essential. Each step forward, no matter how small, contributes to the larger journey. Always Remember the Big Picture: Amidst the day-to-day tasks and challenges, it's vital to keep sight of the big picture. Understanding the broader impact of your work adds depth and purpose to your journey. While getting my Masters in Engineering at Cornell Tech this year I had the opportunity to take a Buisisness class: Leadership skills for a VUCA world with retired Gen. George Casey. This class was an incredible experience. Not only did it give me valuable tools that I’ve been able to put to use, it also gave me insight into how businesses should operate in our Volatile Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous world.

Time & Precision. The strategic imperative to deliver more enrollment with less (less marketing, less scholarship and less counselors) is not a trend that is going away in higher ed enrollment management. Getting more from the team also does not have to mean working 2x as many hours for half the pay with 5 times the applicant volume. What it does involve, however, is a vision and commitment to modernizing the core processes of enrollment management for the benefit of the institution, admissions team and the prospective student. One aspect of this is the delivery of more efficient and effective use of time and increased enrollment precision through a much deeper understanding of enrollment data, applicant behaviors and understanding of consumer decision theory. How does a small college deliver on this from a practical standpoint? I'm looking forward to Ryan O'Dell talk about how what he's done at Edgewood College!

As recommended by University of Warwick's post, I took 5 minutes out my day to watch Joe Wee's incredible speech! At the age of 9, Joe was tutoring younger children in Malaysia to provide for his family. Fast forward years of tirelessly working hard for a better life, Joe arrived at Warwick having never used a computer. It turned out he was a Master at coding! Not to be defeated by his first business venture, Joe persevered to achieve global success and went on to launch CHILLINGO LIMITED, a publishing business with 12 number 1 hits including the legendary Angry Birds! This is one of the most inspiring 5 minute speeches I've heard. And if you can't spare that - here are the gems I am absorbing: 1. We gain clarity through disappointment. Clarity leads us to conviction! It's ok to be disappointed. It's growth. 2. Embrace failure, and fail fast! Know when to accept defeat and keep trying until you succeed. Failure is progress. 3. There are few things more liberating than having your worst fears realised. Be brave in this acceptance. 4. Disruption and innovation go hand in hand; don't be afraid to challenge! And finally; Be Humble. Be Empathetic. Be Happy.

Great advice! Passion is the key to focus and reinvention.
