The real threat to LLM #chatbots isn't that adoption levels have stalled. While enhanced capabilities might boost user uptake, the critical issue lies in the significant investments over the past 1.5 years that have failed to produce substantially improved models or sufficient business to reach breakeven for vendors. #LLMs fundamentally operate as statistical estimators. As Yann LeCun noted, with enough data, they could potentially match human capabilities, though the timeline remains uncertain. Thus far, the most notable advancements in the era of LLMs have been in hardware, with innovations in #GPUs and TPUs, and in the field of distributed systems engineering.

Jakub Polec Indeed, its a brute force approach, relying on hardware and large GPU clusters. People are realizing that these chatbots are not what they've been sold. Perhaps the way to go about Generative AI is to use more efficient algorithms and way less parameters, tokens and the like, to achieve performance and scalable results. So far the ML crowd has opted for the brute force GPU route, when in fact you could train these models on your old laptop, with a change of approach. But this would plummet NVDA chip demand. Companies are racing to produce models with more paramaters, and display it to the clients as a must have, cutting edge. A lot is at stake when you look at it, as the massive investment need to be justified and charged to the customers. If clients understand this is not the only way forward, ML crowd will be affected.

Interesting that Imit is second wave of „chat bots” powered by some form of ML/AI that failed to deliver the results. Maybe chat bot isn’t a good interface after all
