TAKING OATH OF OFFICE 3RD October 2024. Councillor - West Ward - The Hills Shire Council. This has been a 17 year journey. I joined the Labor party in 2006. After helping out in numerous Federal State and Council elections i decided to first contest for council in 2017 for the North Ward. Unfortunately i missed out by 350 votes.I then went on to c ontest one by election in the West Ward , and 2 Federal Elections. Through this journey I learnt a lot. Especially about the issues surrounding the Hills Shire which needs to be addressed. There is a real need for infrastructure improvement which is not keeping up especially with the population growth in the new suburbs of Box Hill and The Gables. As i took my oath I felt surreal - was this really hapenning? I have waited too long for this day. ! But Persistence finally paid off. As realisation sets in that this oath taking is the culmination of a long journey I also realise that this new chapter in my life brings with it added responsibility to meet the expectations of the nearly 9700 residents who voted for me. On this occassion I would also like to thank my wife Sarita and my daughter Hannah who have stood by me and supported me throughout this long journey. I would also like to remember my faithful no 2 Dr susan Lee who was so energetic, Joe Mariathesu my close friend , Kenan Bircan and Michael Chai my Chamber friends, Hameed and Ray Stantion for all those letter drops, and Raja , His brother , family and friends who supported me so well on election day.
