Overcoming Technical Challenges with Headless Drupal and React.js! Today, I want to share some experiences and insights on a cool project approach we've been exploring: combining Drupal without its front-end (that's what "headless" means) with a modern tool for creating web interfaces, React.js. Imagine Drupal as a super-efficient librarian 📚, who organizes and manages all your content perfectly but doesn't worry about how it looks when displayed. That's where React.js steps in - think of it as the interior designer 🎨 of your web library, making sure everything not only is in place but also looks stunning for your visitors. Initially, it might sound a bit tricky. How do we get our efficient librarian to communicate smoothly with our creative designer? 🤔 Here's the simple breakdown: Clear Communication: We set up a direct line for them to talk. This means ensuring Drupal provides the content in a way React.js can understand and display beautifully. Understanding Each Other: We make sure that our librarian and designer understand their languages. For Drupal, it's about delivering content, and for React.js, it's about presenting that content engagingly. Playing to Their Strengths: Drupal is amazing at managing content, and React.js excels at creating fast, responsive user interfaces. By letting each do what they do best, we get a website that's both powerful and beautiful. The journey wasn't without its bumps. But by focusing on these key areas, we've been able to create web experiences that are not only efficient and fast but also look fantastic and offer a great user experience. 🌟 I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences on using headless CMS approaches or React.js in your projects. Let's learn from each other and keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible on the web! #Drupal #react #ReactJs

Web developer using open source tech to arm the rebels. Looking to support B Corps, Worker Co-Ops, and non profits in their missions on the web.
Today Capellic released part III of my article series on #frontend #performance in #Drupal. This installment covers the subject that really inspired the series: CSS/JS library splitting. This concept isn't exactly new. Code splitting has been a topic in the Javascript ecosystem for a good long time now, but it is still slowly finding its way into the actual day to day practice of the average Drupal developer. The tools and the concepts have been out there and well supported for some time. I think the community is turning a corner in our journey of front end practice to really begin widely adopting the modular mindset when it comes to CSS and Javascript. Drupal's libraries system is tailor made for this paradigm, and I hope to see more developers adopt the approach in building their themes. https://lnkd.in/g98t9aBc

Step-by-step optimizing Drupal site performance. In my opinion, the weakest points are usually third-party integrations. You do not fully control your project if you depend on another service. This means that sometimes, you need to wait before data is rendered and delivered from this provider to your particular website. But sometimes, you need to wait a couple of seconds, and of course, users don't want to wait so long. So, please pay great attention to the integrations or dependencies you bring to your website ecosystem. And, of course, you need to optimize and fine-tune the perimeters you control. For this, you can optimize the back end and front end. For the back end, you can fine-tune the database. Usually, it's the slowest part of the solution. So please fine-tune the database and operations around your data, review business logic to make it more straightforward, faster, and reliable, and control your code base. Do not overmarch; do not over-helm your code base on the back end. For the front end, you must optimize images and other data, such as videos. You need to minify CSS and JavaScript. Be very careful with JavaScript framework libraries that you connect to your project. You can also enable a caching system and implement a CDN. These tactics work well. So you can quickly create a solution to deliver the best experience to customers on your website or mobile application. #drupal

Today Capellic published part two in my article series on frontend performance in #drupal. The subject of today's article is about image optimization. We're a bit spoiled in the Drupal community, because the tooling for this built into the #cms is just so good out of the box. The final tweaks are just a hop, skip, and a jump away in contrib land, and managing a finely tuned system is possible using some careful considered systems and a little scripting. A huge portion of the sites I've seen in the last decade haven't fully leveraged these built in tools to produce the best outcome for their users, which is understandable, it can be a bit tedious to setup and manage dozens of image styles, let alone considering breakpoints and responsive images, and what about optimization pipelines? Image loading attributes? It can be a lot, but the juice is worth the squeeze here. The Capellic team (especially Stephen Musgrave and Pablo Villate) have spent a lot of time really understanding the image style system and producing a set of procedures that produce really predictable and performant results. Take a chance to read when you've got a second: https://lnkd.in/gu-msidK
